I only ask because I seem to be getting an over abundance of people telling me I'm going to burn because they see I'm wearing a pentacle.

It's in the bible and it's true, so it is Christians jobs to WARN you not THREATEN you that there is a hell to go to if you don't accept Jesus as God's Son and that He died for you to forgive you of your sins. All you have to do is ask and accept Him into your heart.

if you understood the religion at all you wouldn't even ask for an answer to that question. christians are supposed to preach the gospel to non believers, not just congregate off by themselves where they can do no good in the world. thats the goal anyway. youre problem with this is understandable, since many christians go about it all the wrong way, like you said threatening with hell if you don't change, rather than trying different methods that are not a total turnoff that just make people mad.

Because most of the Christians that you hear from are not real Christians...the real Christians will of course discuss their religion but will not force it upon you...the saddest part is the "Fires from Hell" image comes from a fictional comedy by Dante and not from the bible but, at your peril, try and tell them that...the REAL Christians, and, yes, even Muslims, NOT the "born agains" "Jehova Witnesess" the 'fundamentalists", "Roman Catholics" et al, which are pseudo Christians, are beautiful caring peoples who will care for you in time of spiritual and life's needs, but will never force you to believe what they believe...I am not anything at the moment and am continuing my search and probably will until I die, but relish the thought of engaging the "pseudo" Christians whenever the opportunity arises and in most cases they leave with there mocked tears and faked smile.

I am a Christian, but do not believe in a hell fire, nor does the Bible teach such, nor does the personality of the Author of the Holy Bible reflect such attitude:

"And they have built the high places of To′pheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hin′nom, in order to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart.’"
-Jeremiah 7:31

It was a teaching that has evolved over centuries. Please note:

In ancient Babylonian and Assyrian beliefs the “nether world . . . is pictured as a place full of horrors, and is presided over by gods and demons of great strength and fierceness.” (The Religion of Babylonia and Assyria, Boston, 1898, Morris Jastrow, Jr., p. 581) Early evidence of the fiery aspect of Christendom’s hell is found in the religion of ancient Egypt. (The Book of the Dead, New Hyde Park, N.Y., 1960, with introduction by E. A. Wallis Budge, pp. 144, 149, 151, 153, 161) Buddhism, which dates back to the 6th century B.C.E., in time came to feature both hot and cold hells. (The Encyclopedia Americana, 1977, Vol. 14, p. 68) Depictions of hell portrayed in Catholic churches in Italy have been traced to Etruscan roots.—La civiltà etrusca (Milan, 1979), Werner Keller, p. 389.

But the real roots of this God-dishonoring doctrine go much deeper. The fiendish concepts associated with a hell of torment slander God and originate with the chief slanderer of God (the Devil, which name means “Slanderer”), the one whom Jesus Christ called “the father of the lie.”—John 8:44.

although the frightened, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their area contained in the lake which burneth with fireplace and brimstone: that's the second one lack of existence. Revelations 21:8 no longer a Christian, yet i presumed i might want to look this up for you besides.

Hell fire exists because Jesus taught it in Matthew 5:22. (also verse 29)
To threaten people???? Well he taught us to teach, there is a time to warn and a time to teach. I would suppose some people don't have very good common sense, or timing for that matter. Plus you have to stick to the good news.
Forgive us all. Jesus did. You have the right to your own conscience.

Those Christians who approach you in that way do not know how to share the love that Jesus gave to them. Facts are facts that those who keep rejecting Jesus receive consequences. BUT it is not the right way to share the good news. What is the good news, then?
Well, let me start from the beginning: God created the first man and woman and told them specifically not to eat of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because the day they eat the fruit of that tree , God warned them, they would die (spiritually). They are allowed to eat all the fruits from all the trees. You might think this God is unkind but look at it this way: If you are a parent, you don't want your children to get poisoned or hurt bad so you warn them not to eat something that would hurt them e.g. the Orleander plant has poisonous sap that looks like milk. God is like that . He loves you and me and everyone in the world, today, centuries ago, in the past and even those who would be born in the future because God is eternal!
Now this first couple was tempted by the Devil (satan) and gave in to his temptations. They both ate the fruit. It hurt God to see them do this foolish thing. But God had said so and he cannot lie. That day, sin came into the world and also the consequences of sin which is death, decay, sickness and all the bad things in the world. People ask, "If God is so good, how come there is so much suffering in this world?"
Hey, that's NOT God's fault . It all started with the first couple Adam and Eve! They did wrong and as a result suffered consequences. What has that got to do with me? Well, Adam and Eve were the first people on earth and therefore their offsprings inherited what I call the "sin DNA " from them. It is a spiritual DNA. Every human being is made up of a body (your physical body), mind and spirit. The spirit part of the person inherited the Sin DNA. Just think, who taught a little "innocent kid" to lie? Or to do some wrong thing the first time?
But the Bible says, "God so LOVED the world that HE GAVE HIS ONLY SON (Jesus Christ) that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life" (John chapter 3 ,verse 16 in the Bible.) This is what happened . People throughout the centuries have tried to reach God through philosophy, all kinds of religions (that's why there are so many religions) and all kinds of ways and when they cannot find him they declare, "There is no god!" (atheism results). But they look at the wrong places and did not get through!
It is sad because he is still waiting for them to go to him. He sent Jesus in the form of a baby born to live in this world so Jesus can relate to us, at the same time, Jesus has no sin because he is a part of God. Only Jesus can take our place. So instead of us dying spiritually because of that sin DNA, when we accept Jesus and invite him into our hearts (spiritually), we become a new person in the spirit (that's what it means by being "born again") Jesus took our place on that cross, allowing himself to be whipped till he was unrecognizable and then nailed to a wooden cross and bled and suffered till he died. It should be mankind that face spiritual death but Jesus took our place so that all we need to do is accept Jesus by faith. BUT the wonderful thing is this, Jesus did not remain dead but after three days, he rose again and became alive and He was taken up to heaven and will return one day to take all believers in Him to be with Him forever. I don't know whether you will receive this message or not. I pray for you and whoever you are I tell you that Jesus loves you, no matter how you react towards him or other Christians who might have offended you . (They are humans and do make mistakes, in their enthusiasm to reach out to you with the hope that you will come to faith in Jesus Christ).

Because of three reasons I can think of:
1. the smell of burning human flesh. Ewwww! and,
2. we would rather you didn't have to burn. And,
3. with some folk, it takes a good hellfire preaching to wake them up... but I know you are not like them.

It is in the bible as well as the words of Jesus. It was the fires of hell that I envisioned one night almost 20 years ago that brought me back to Jesus. Of cause it was the love and grace of Jesus that saves me!
