I have already asked this question but I am desperate for some advice. I discovered that one of my Guinea Pigs was bleeding from its rear end and took it to the vet. The vet said that its rectum popped out and he needed surgery to fix it. According to the vet maybe the other Guinea Pig that he is in a cage with may have attacked him or raped him or something like that. Are there any other reasons why this could have happened? Since I took him to the vet I have been keeping them in separate cages, but they seem lonely and frightened. However, I'm scared to put them back in together, as this problem may occur again but it is very hard maintaining two different cages for them. Any ideas on what I should do?

I agree with Erik W. You really should get a second opinion. Many vets aren't very knowledgeable with rodents, though they will try to give you an answer to your problem even if they have no idea what the problem even is. Chances are, you wouldn't be happy if the vet charged you $30 to tell you that they have no idea what is wrong with your pig. You really should find a local vet who knows about pigs.

I have 2 guinea pigs and I have had them for 1 year now and they still run into there igloo sometimes, but they have gotten better because I take them out and play with them all the time and guinea pigs are very timid little creatures and a lot of the time just want to be left alone except one you get them out then they lighten up. It also depends on your guinea pig if they are very snuggly or not. I would suggest only doing fun stuff with your guinea for a while.

that sounds horrible, but i think the best and kindest thing to do is to seperate them just so you can monitor the progress of the one who is bleeding, i work for pets at home and sometimes guinea pigs and other small animals do fight because when they reach a sexual age they mount each other - but they do it round the wrong way quite often so the gunea pig (or what ever other creature it may be) that is under neath gets angry and bites the one on top ..... unfortunatly it's that area that they go for because its in front of them at the time!!
keep an eye on them for an hour ...just sit with them but dont interfear and see what happens it may be that you have to go for the surgery on the one thats bleeding!

get the pigs spayed and nuetered and it should help then gradually put the pigs in the same cage but only when your home to watch them and keep an eye on them if that doesnt work you can have two cages or one pig.

You can get a larger tank, and separate them with a screen or tempered glass.
People use that method for aggressive fish.

If not ask your local pet store or even the Vet.
