I wouldn't choose the boss lady or man I would choose the job I liked doing. Your working for a long time if you like the job the boss wont matter, Of course lady boss would be much more genorous , men are not always as sensitive to others.

I've had both.
Women bosses can be 'extra' hard because they have to prove they are 'as good as a man' in many cases. I find they can over-do the 'tough-nut' act. However, I also find women bosses are more on the ball and tend to run a tighter ship. They can have trouble with staff because people don't like working for what are often viewed as feminists. To be fair though, women do pretty much have to blow the socks off their employers to get the recognition they deserve as bosses.
Male bosses can be more friendly and jovial - yet their work ethic is often lacking commitment. Many male bosses inherit their positions through a 'jobs for the boys' method of old tactic company promotion routes. Therefore, they are often not actually equipped to do the job, but rather have served time and have been rewarded for that rather than quality of output.
Both have their good points; both have the not-so-good points.

Have to say Male bosses are the best! I have worked with 2 female bosses and it felt as if they always had something to prove, they would laugh and joke about with the males in the office and just give me a hard time whilst the males bosses have all been great bar 1

Qualifications aside, I have noticed that some female bosses, at least in academic settings do indeed have something to prove. Equally, some are quite relaxed about everything (especially one I worked for who had her doctorate). She was wonderful.
It depends on the person, and I don't think it fair to tar the lot of males or females with too wide a brush.
I would go for impressions, rather than anything else in making the decision.

I'd choose man everytime - all the women bosses I've had a are so busy trying to prove they are better than men they only think of how everything makes them look.

I don't care. I've had both male and female bosses before and it was similar. There were good and bad qualities in all of them. The gender doesn't matter. It matters what kind of a person your boss is, not what they have between their legs.

These days there isn't much difference which sex is taking charge. I have worked with both sexes, they are both good and bad and I don't think it is a gender thing anymore. The best thing to do is to find out what makes your boss tick and what upsets them! Naturally, stay on the good side without being a poodle.

I'd prefer to have a man as a boss, might just be a woman thing though. In my profession there are mostly women though...
