Moses did. He and the Levites used force to end the worship of the golden calf. 3,000 people were killed.
I'm not sure how someone could read the Bible and say no. He says to the people, "Who is on the L-rd's side, let him come to me." and the ones that weren't were killed. That's pretty violent insentive not to turn to idol woship again.
Also by tradition, G-d lifted Mt. SInai above the Jews and told them he'd drop iot if they didn't accept the Torah.
