I don't understand this dominance thing. My Shih Tzu.. will not all of them ...but the smaller ones will crawl up to my shoulders to sleep. It isn't dominance it from them cuddling with their little mats. They are cuddling around you neck. It is a tight spot and they feel safe, if you think back that started when you brought her home. She went to the one place she felt safe.
All you can do now is when she does that is to gently lift her off your shoulders and put her on you lap or hold her. Since you didn't stop this at the beginning it will be hard to break her of it now. Trust me it isn't over dominance it because she feels safe and comfort there.
Let me put something in your head here. One day your little one will be gone and you are going to wish that you had her on your shoulders again. Just put her on your lap or hold her. In time she may learn not to do that.. if not , then cherish it because one day she won't be there to do that.

Must be a Yorkie thing. My JRxYorkie does this. Perhaps they are finding the highest spot in the room as a lookout point.

Its a dominance thing, you need to keep taking her down an puttin her on the floor shell soon learn if you keep it consistant, as soon as you let her get away with it once she will always keep trying to do it. The first time you take her down you have to do it every single time or it will just confuse her an youll get no where with it.

I agree, just gently move her each time and give her another 'comfy' option. Dominance, dominance, dominance, that's all you seem to hear these days. If the dog was acting dominant then when you moved here she would snap, snarl, growl or even give a little grumble. So please don't be fooled and start using all the anti-dominant dog exercises that are around.

In any given situation, focus on what you do want your dog to do instead of on whatever he’s doing wrong. Learn how to train your dog https://tr.im/gPKax
For example, suppose that on many evenings, your young dog gets busy looking for trouble just as you’re digesting your dinner. He grabs a boot from the mat by the front door and gallops through the house with it. You yell at him and take it away. He grabs its mate. You yell and take it away. He heads for the kitchen and starts checking out the counters in case something tasty’s been left behind. You chase him away. And on and on, until you’ve lost your temper and torn out clumps of hair you can ill afford to lose.

Anything that puts their head at the same height or above yours is a dominance thing, and he/she is just reinforcing that. They will also play the cutes just to achieve this.
They will still respect and love you if you assert yourself back and stop them from this sort of behaviour. You just have to let them know it's not on.

You break a habit by creating a new one, when she does that take her and put her down where you want her. My mom's doxie did that and like you say, it's a right royal pain... Put her on your lap, and keep putting her there until she gets the idea. They're clever little dogs, and can learn quickly.

that’s so funny! But yeah she’s finding higher territory, therefore declaring her dominance over you or even just that she is equal. you might want to get her, a little chair or pillow of her own, set it close to you, and just try not to let her on the couch, once she gets that your the dominant one and goes to sit on her bed naturally, you can try putting her in your lap. but its up to you and how you want to do things! good luck... every time she gets up on your shoulder, just say no and put her were you want her to be, the parse her profusely once she is were you want her!
