Pick up a copy of 'The New Complete Joy of Homebrewing,' by Charlie Papazian and tread it. Then visit http://www.beertown.org to look up where any homebrewing clubs meet in your area. Attend a meeting and ask all the questions you may have, including where to buy supplies and equipment.
That should get you started.

Start small (see link). Buy a book like (http://www.amazon.com/How-Brew-Everything-Right-First/dp/0937381888/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-8527344-3215825?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1180030644&sr=8-1). Determine what kind of beer you like the most, and find a similar recipe in said book.
