they are working on such a system, but im not sure that it would actually be as effective as you may think.
being in the military myself, commanders know where their troops are, this is something learned within about 5 minutes of entering basic training. i imagine it would help them on the battlefield to an extent, but there is something a little unnerving about relying on technology for something as important as knowing where your troops are. a power outage or transmission failure would leave people wondering where their own *** is.
and in the case of troops lost on the battlefield, it would help in finding them, but not in the case of being captured, and it could even be used against the troops if the enemy was clever about it.
i personally dont think the inconvenience of having to change the battery constantly on a gps unit and the reliance people would have on it would outweigh the slight benefit

To some extent, there are units and vehicles that do carry trackers. Keep in mind however, that non-encrypted civilian GPS trackers like your child locators also give away your location to the enemy.

Halliburton couldn't figure out how to make any money on them, they're so expensive.
I would like to know similarly; Bush insisted months after the invasion that Iraq still had WMDs.
So why weren't the troops in their billion$ worth of protective gear?
How could he let them roam around as if there were no WMDs?
What if there had been and 10,000 were killed?
Would Bush have been held responsible?

They do for some, just not all. Cost prohibitive thanks to the Dems holding out on the purse strings. You know, same ones that denied money for body armor and bullet proof vehicles. Plus, they're hard to get a signal from while tied up in a cave or mud house.

If you want, one carry a cell phone. Those have GPS built into them. I doubt those soldiers are soldiers are alive and in one piece. They were probably killed and taken to be later clamed as being hostages. I don't know why a living soldier would surrender to somebody that plans on beheading them on tape.

our troops don't even have decent helmets and you want them to be issued gpses? what country do you think this is? did you really think all that talk about respecting troops was supposed to do anything other than derail war protestors?
