If you want to do something for both young and old, you could help a Foster Grandparent program. Both sides benefit greatly. I'm sure they could use help with transportation and paperwork and that sort of thing.
Nursing homes also need volunteers and many encourage children to visit as long as they are well behaved.

Check with your local chapter of Red Cross, or even the Salvation Army... if this is not up your alley, there are usually shelters for woman and children in a variety of needy conditions in almost every community. You should be able to find them in your local phone book or even ask the local police or fire personnel, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

contact your local old folks home. they really need voluteers. and the old folks there love the attention. make sure you take an interest in their lives. you will learn and they will love to tell you about their lives
