Can you give me some pointers on selecting a god?
There are so many religions, and some can be violent when you don't belong, some just brush you off like a peasent and you're not so important. How do I find the right one?
Do I need money? Will that get me in the clique?

are you looking for a religion or somewhere to belong? if its actually a religion, i say believe in what you want to believe in. i find so much b.s. in every religion cause everyone has a different interpretation of what was written forever ago. i believe in god, and thats it. you dont have to be a christian to be a caring person or be a buddhist to give helpful advice. do what you think is right, help others out when you can and be a good person. you can follow the best parts from each religion and still believe in a god. there is nothing wrong with that. the organization of religion was the worst thing that could happen to it. more people have been killed because of it than for any other reason out there.

Everyone appreciates being able to make personal choices, including the choice of religious affiliation. But having the freedom to choose does not guarantee that a person will make the right choice.

Some people, for example, choose a religion on the basis of its size, wealth, ceremonial pageantry, or their family ties. None of these things are in any way decisive in determining whether a religion is the true one or not.

The pivotal question in this matter is: Which religion urges its followers to do God’s will and gives solid evidence of divine backing, so that its adherents can say with confidence, “God is for us”?

In my search it wasn't where I fit in it was the one that had the truth. To my suprize it turned out to be Jehovahs Witnesses.

If you are truly looking for god, look into your heart and soul. Your god will be within.

And it will never matter how others treat you or how much or little money you have or how popular (or unpopular) you are. It won't matter if you wear rags or fancy expensive designer clothes.

You will know when you find your god. You will be at peace.

You will stick with god through thick and thin. (You won't bail out when times get a bit tough)

Once you find god, all your other concerns / questions will be irrelavant.

Your questions / concerns suggest to me that you want to "belong" in a group- (possibly in a 'religious' setting) of HUMANS who are not violent, but who will give you attention, make you feel important, and treat you like more than a "peasant", AND you want to be in the "clique"!

And 'no', you should not have to pay money to find god. I don't believe god is for sale.

Don't shop. God is not something you select like you are buying a product. God wants a relationship with you. Do you want a relationship or something else? Seek the Truth. No matter who the followers are, you can not decide on following God by a crowd.

As a fashion accessory or psychological boost?
That's just a matter of taste, and the gamut runs from A to Z
(Arioch to Zardoz?)

But if God exists, it would definitely be best for you to believe in the one that's actually there, lest He/She/It be offended by your lack of respect by choosing some non-existent deity for your devotion.
That question is not just one of fashion.

As a matter of taste, I'm with C S Lewis : we both found the Norse gods the most appealing.

First of all you don't need money to be in a religion and if you do that is wrong and you should not be apart of it.I was a christian for 15 years and the only time I gave my church money is when I had it to give or if anyone need help.

You want any of us to pick one for you? Isn't that kind of a personal thing? When I go to the God Store, I always look for one that is reasonable, forgiving, loving, fun, easy to talk with and not overly dressed. What are you looking for in a God? Hairy thunderer or cosmic muppet? Driinking buddy? Golf companion? Ski bum?

why dont you look for something that allows you to be as spiritual as you want to be.
something that gives freedom, doesnt cramp your style... but offers something of enlightenment ... some doing of good works could be optional... and some sort of spiritual pie in the sky sort of thing.

lots of religions fit that description.
...

in other words.... i'm not going to pick something out for you.
