The easiest frosting in the world is a little melted butter (about a quarter cup -- zap it in the microwave), some powdered sugar and enough milk to make it soft enough to spread. If it's too thin, add more powdered sugar, if it's too thick, add a little milk (but just a drop or two! it's very sensitive!).
But don't be afraid to try ones like 7-minute frosting. They take time, but they are really yummy -- and seriously, it'll take less than 10 minutes from start to finish.

Take powder sugar and butter over a medium heat and a little water stirring to a liquidy paste then tak some fresh sqeezed lemon juice in and spread it over your baked cholate cake, stick in the fridge for five minutes to make the icing harden up and serve
I dont know the exact amount its just how I do it use your commonsense acording to the size of cake u can add a little water if the paste is not melting down to a spreadble paste
If you dont have powder sugar, u can stick granulated in a blender and whip it into a powder consistency experiment and have fun, u can add foo color, cherry bits or whatever some people even use cream cheese also
All I know is it easy and uaske d for easy it is and im no cook lol

1 1/2 cups sugar 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar or 1 tablespoon white corn syrup 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/3 cup water 2 egg whites 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract Place sugar, cream of tartar or corn syrup, salt, water, and egg whites in the top of a double boiler. Beat with a handheld electric mixer for 1 minute. Place pan over boiling water, being sure that boiling water does not touch the bottom of the top pan. (If this happens, it could cause your frosting to become grainy). Beat constantly on high speed with electric mixer for 7 minutes. Beat in vanilla.

For a real simple frosting...
2 parts icing sugar to 1 part butter which means if 500g icing sugar then 250g butter. or 14oz sugar to 7 oz butter.
Cream the butter and then add in the sifted icing sugar. Beat well till light and fluffy. Add some vanilla essence or lemon juice or any other flavouring. If you want chocolate icing, use a little less sugar and substitute with cocoa. Yummy!

if you don't like really sweet frosting...this one is good I use it all the time.... the only downfall to it is that it needs to stay refregerated...
2 pkgs dream whip follow the directions on the package to make it.
add 1 sm pkg instant pudding whatever your favorite flavor is
1/2 cup milk
beat into the dream whip frost on cake or cup cakes
refrigerate
this is really good on angel food cakes.
