Need, when not satisfied, can cause you pain. That's why love hurts.

It depends on what kind of an answer you want. Some would say it is like fairytales, and others would say it is chemicals produced in your brain. Then there is the issue of the type of love. There is brother-sister, mother-child, friends, best friends, even close, in-love, or want to marry them love, just to name a few.
