The do really needs to be checked by a vet. Sounds like he came to you with a lot of problems. He probably has an ear infection, & may very well have worms. He also may have some underlying problems that can't be seen & will need blood work done. I would not hesitate, I would take him as soon as possible. Whenever anyone gets a dog/pup they should have it seen by the vet within a few days after getting it. Good luck to you & your dog!!!!

okay...I am an expert on not making uneeded trips to the vet. My sister and mom have both worked at one for over 8 years.
I am afraid that the ear infection is probably correct. If it is painful, and he won't let you touch it, it may be an abscess. Either one needs antibiotics. Most likley ammoxicillin. They same stuff we use, only in smaller dosages. IF you have some, you can try that. But unfortunitly with an ear infection you almost Have to take him in, because the ears are so sensitive. I haven't been to a vet in over 3 years. I am dealing with a pretty bad abscess right now. But with an ear infection, it should be pretty cheap. Call the vet and ask ahead of time if it sounds like an ear infection. Then get a price. If they say it does sound like an ear infection. Then call around to different vets and price check. Make sure to ask them what EXACTLY they will be doing to your dog. This will let you know if there is any over the counter things you can buy, to save yourself a trip to the vet. If they tell you the name of the medicine, just to to pet expo, or pet smart and buy the generic brand and do ityourself.
Hope this has helped you.

A bad smell in the ear means he has an infection of some sort, or ear mites.
His anal glands might be infected or impacted.
Some dogs just don't like other dogs -- mine doesn't.
Make him eat dog food, as long as you buy a GOOD brand.
He won't play or eat because he's MISERABLE. Take him to a vet!

Has something in his ear, has ear infection, yeast infection, or maybe ear mites.. Get out our Otoscope and take a look down there.
Dogs lick their butt, if it's excessive have his anal glands checked, and feed a better quality food that has a good fiber.
Dogs sleep quite alot.. They will also sleep if they are bored and no one is doing anything with them.
He doesn't play with you cause you don't try to learn his games.. You don't come up with fun games to play with him. He says the same thing about you..
You didn't socialize him around other dogs, of course he hates other dogs. Get him neutered, and socialize him around other dogs.. people, kids and new situations..
He loves dog food, but he hates crappy and cheap quality dog food.. he likes natural corn and wheat free dog foods that have no fillers , and loves foods that are preserved naturally. He likes quality dog food so that he can get his proper nutrition out of smaller amounts..

The ear is an infection - needs antibiotics.
The butt issue is an impacted anal gland and it needs to be expressed.
The sleeping and not playing is because he feels like crap and is in pain and needs to go to the vet.

Sounds like several problems, but the ear smell may be an ear infection. That is very common in dogs. You should check with your vet.

ear smells bad..ear infection
licking scratching his butt...anal glands are blocked
always sleeping..could be he is sick
all those i would say vet should have a look at.
my maltese never knew how to play when i first got him! it took him a while...he first just wanted to get to know me! now i can't get him to stop playing
hating other dogs could be cuz he has been poorly socilised. so he is scared and doens't know how to react to others so he barks bites etc so they stay away as he is scared...
doesn't like dog food...mine hates it too..
but if i mix can food with rice he started to eat it and then slowly less rice and then only kibbles and can food..
good luck!!

i have 2 agree w/ D.P.
Vet...........ASAP. Too many things going on w/ u r guy. Try a dog food like Nutro Ultra or Avaderm. Get him into a training class 4 more interaction w/ other dogs, & u. Once he gets over his health issues & gets the proper diet, he'll prob. sleep less & play more.
ps........NEVER try expressing anal glands if u r not trained 4 it.!! You can do alot more harm than good.
Good luck.

it shouldn't matter what i tell you. take your dog immediatly to your vet. that's my 1st-100th opinion. allowing your dog to stay this way is neglect and plain out cruel. be at your vet's front door when they open tomorrow and have your poor pet checked out and do what your vet reccomends. they are the one's that went to school.
ears, itching, sleeping and not wanting to play~~~could be several medical conditions that need to be treated.
not liking other dogs~not socialized
doesn't like dog food~you feed him people food, and of course he wants that.
