From the Bible:
Matthew 5
17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

According to the above the laws of the old testament do apply, therefore, according to your religion you are just as doomed as we Atheists are. You are wise enough not to follow the rules of the old testament because they are outright evil, and to deny otherwise is to be lying to yourself.

John 3
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.[g] 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
This could also mean that if you do not follow the commandments of God you do not believe in the truth of Jesus.

1 John 2
1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for[a] the sins of the whole world.
3We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. 4The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5But if anyone obeys his word, God's love[b] is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: 6Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
Jesus Commands us to follow the commandments of the old testament, therefore according to the above we are all liars.

James W,
Just because I am an Atheist does not mean that I can not have interests. I asked this question to further my understanding of Christianity. I also ask questions to Mormons, Muslims, and a wide variety of beliefs.

Actualy you answered the question partly your self. Just read again what Matthew 5:17 said;
"I have not come to abolish the law but to FULFILL it." The old testament is an account of God and man before Jesus was sent to save us of our sins. It has reference to the coming of Jesus so that we would know that it was truly Jesus. I have some scriptures that you can read. there are to many to put in here, but if you want to read them, there is no better place to get your answers. read Hebrews9:22 thru28. The commandments are still there because if every body tried to live by them, even athiests, the world would be a better place. If you really read the bible you might understand matthew 5:20 better. the pharisees and the teachers of that certain place were using the law to there own advantage and not for Gods. The whole bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way to salvation, the doom of sinners, the happiness of believers. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.read also, hebrews 9:22,23.

Unless you know that Jesus is talking about the Law. The Law is the 10 commandments. The Lord gave us 2 more, (love God, love your neighbour) The other Levitical laws do not apply.
I can obey the commandments with ease.
Anyone unfamiliar with the prophets Jesus mentions, I would be happy to assist you in knowing what the message of each prophet was.

Paul and the writings present day in Acts make it quite undeniable that the gentile converts to Christianity weren't required to return under the old covenant with a view to alter right into a Christian. You mean that God's people would be protecting the old covenant. something incorrect with the hot covenant? you do no longer in basic terms like the greater useful covenant with greater useful can provide? you want the no longer extraordinarily much as good because of the fact the stronger? to this point as who has the authority, God, who expresses His authority in the writings of people who have been inspired by technique of Him to write down the N.T. Scriptures. as a result, who's ignoring this authority that makes it sparkling to anybody who reads issues in context that Christians have been on no account a occasion to that old covenant, and the old covenant ended? .

If Jesus did not come to abolish the law, does that mean all the Old Testament laws still apply to us today? In the Old Testament, there were three categories of law : ceremonial, civil, and moral.
(1) The ceremonial law related specifically to Israel's worship
(see Leviticus1 :2,3 for example). Its primary purpose was to point forward to Jesus Christ ; these laws, therefore, were no longer necessary after Jesus' death and resurrection. While we are no longer bound by ceremonial law, the principals behind them- to worship and love a holy God- still apply. Jesus was often accused by the pharisees of violating ceremonial law.
(2) The civil law applied to daily living in Israel (see Deuteronomy 24 : 10,11, for example) Because modern society and culture are so radically different from that time and setting, all of these guidelines cannot be followed specifically. But the principles behind the commands are timeless and should guide our conduct. Jesus demonstrated these principles by example.
(3) The moral law (such as the Ten Commandments) is the direct command of God, and it requires strict obedience (see Exodus 20 :13, for example). The moral law reveals the nature and will of God, and it still applies today. Jesus obeyed the moral law completely.
Some of those in the crowd were experts at telling others what to do, but they missed the central point of God's laws themselves. Jesus made it clear, however, that obeying God's laws is more important than explaining them. It's much easier to study God's laws and tell others to obey them than to put them into practice. How are you doing at obeying God yourself?
God judges our hearts as well as our deeds, for it is in the heart that our real allegiance lies. Jesus was saying that his listeners needed a different kind of obedience altogether (out of love for God), not just a more intense version of the Pharisees' obedience (which was mere legal compliance). Our obedience must (1) come from what God does in us, not what we can do by ourselves, (2) be God-centered, not self-centered, (3) be based on reverence for God, not approval from people, and (4) go beyond keeping the law to living by the principles behind the law.
Here is a question for you. Who is more irrational? A man who believes in a God he doesn't see, or a man who is offended by a God he doesn't believe in. When you end up in front of God and Jesus on judgment day you can tell him you don't believe in him and see what happens. Good luck!!!!

I agree with you deazone in what you said. It is all there in the Bible, but some just don't want to keep them or they pick and choose the ones that apply to them. Many will say that Jesus nailed the Law to the cross and the Law no longer is valid for them. I disagree with that because God never said not to do them or keep them, He says to do them from generation to generation. It means to keep them until the end.
Just like the Biblical Feasts. When Jesus returns, He will still be keeping the Feasts, all of them. God does not change, it is man that changes.
Just like what it says in John 5:46-47 (paraphrasing here) Jesus says that how is it that you don't believe what Moses is saying, when he wrote of me, so how is it that you will believe in my words?" Look at that verse.
