My dog has a harness and seat belt and although i havent been in an accident it works like it should so far.
He loves to go for car rides and is always in the car! You have to make sure the belt it not too long otherwise when you stop suddenly they fall off the seat.
Cheers

Yes they do i drove two dogs from Texas to Tennessee using them. Dogs could sit up lay down but were buckled in safely. If you don't want to use other seat belt is the way to go!

There's no hard data on this that I know of, but in my personal experience, yes they help in an accident. I've seen dogs die from hitting the dashboard or getting thrown from the vehicle.

They really do.
I'm not sure how much protection they'd be in a very bad crash, but they CERTAINLY help keep the dog in his place, which is MUCH safer for the dog and the driver!
I highly recommend them.

Yes, the harness kind does. I had one for my dog. It allowed him freedom to stand or sit or lie down, but not jump around. It kept him safe and I could concentrate on driving.
