I heartily agree with Mini. A shop is after all just a shop. They might be cheap in Hong Kong, but they are just as cheap in a thousand other places in the world.

If you want to stun your senses with an experience that you can not have anywhere else in the world (excepting perhaps Rio de Janeiro) then go for either the Ngong Ping Cable Car ride - directly from the airport to a massive mountain top Buddhist Temple, or travel into the city and take the cable car up to the Peak.

Here's my thoughts on which to chose. If it's raining, or if you have to be back at the airport by 5 or 6pm, take the Ngong Ping. The Buddha is even more spectacular in wild or misty weather. If the weather is clear, and you can time it so that you can be at the top of the Peak at just after sunset, then go for the Peak (the Buddha is closed by then).

In terms of time both probably take around the same, but the Ngong Ping has the advantage that you don't have to think too much, there's one way 'up' and one way 'back' and it starts just next to the airport. To get to the Peak from the airport you'd have to take the train to TST, then the Star Ferry across the harbour (an essential experience on a fine weather day), and then the bus that connects with the Tram. Ask a supplementary question if you need the timetables and stations. The Ngong Ping and the Tram and the HK railway (MTR) all have websites.

Hello I grew up in Hong Kong so I guess I could give you some tips. If you only have one afternoon, go to Causeway Bay. It's more dynamic than Tsim Sha Tsui, as most shops in TST are Gucci, Prada - tourist shops where you pay by wads of banknotes, whereas shops in CB things are more funky as it's a mecca for young people - things are a lot cheaper too. In terms of food, CD isn't too bad. I myself can spend more than just one afternoon there. Take the MTR (underground train) and follow signs (they're in both Chinese and English) it should be easy

hope that helps

On Hong Kong Island
- the view from The Peak is magnificient, it over looks the whole of Hong Kong (you can take the Peak Tram up there from Central)

- go to the Jumbo Floating Restaurant in Aberdeen

- if you want to go shopping go to ...
>Causeway Bay (Times Square, Sogo etc.)
>IFC(tallest building in Hong Kong with mall on the bottom floors)
>Pacific Place

In Kowloon
-Festival Walk shopping mall

I always rank the Peak as No. 1 in Hong Kong as it allows you to ride the historic cable tram up/down and get one of the best birdseye view except for a helicopter ride. It's unique to HK only. The peak also has a variety of shopping and dining although they won't exactly be the best bargain.
The other alternative would be the Ngong Ping cable car ride and the tours along the way, like the Big Buddha. This is also unique to HK and very close to the airport itself.
Also check the offcial HK tourist site for other options.

If you are a shopping lover, then I reccomend you to go to Tsim Sha Tsui or Causeway Bay.
If you are a sightseeing person, then go to the Peak. Remember to bring a camera!
If you are a person who loves to eat, you can go anywhere for good stuff to eat.
For more information, check online, type in Hong Kong and there will be tons of info to look at

Stroll around Tsim Sha Tsui, grab a quick bite, then take the ferry across to the Hong Kong, go to Central-Mid Level escalators, have a drink, stroll around, and if you have more time, take the MTR to Causeway Bay for to (window) shop a bit, and then back to Tsim Sha Tsui.
