To prove to the Devil that Job loved God in SPITE of the blessings He poured out on him.

"Thou he yet SLAY me, still I will trust in Him."

it's a good question...and if you look in the Bible, God never really gives a reason why. When Job asks, God just goes on about the glory of His creation. Maybe this just shows that we were never meant to always know the reason why. Yeah, that's hard to take, but God can bring anyone through whatever situation they're in. The Bible says God blessed Job more in the later part of his life than in the first and that he died old and full of years. God can take any situation and turn it for the better when peole stay true to Him like Job did. Like coal under heat and pressure will one day become a diamond...

In order to test his love and faith in God. God blessed Job with everything a guy could want. Happiness, a big family, riches like no one else around. The Devil told God that Job only loved God because he gave him things. So God let the Devil take it all away to see if Job truly loved him. And he did.

The answer to that is at the end of the book of Job. Job went through all that pain and suffering, but he didn't have to.

Job acknowledged his sins before God, repented, and put his trust and faith in the Lord. What happened when he did that? He was restored immediately and much more abundantly than he ever was. It is the same lesson that is preached throughout God's word. It is all about His glory and His will.

Because God had faith that Job was a good man and would not succumb to the devil no matter what. It was a test of faith.

The story of Job is a very poor hebrew story and a contradiction in "faith." Jesus said an explaination that applies here. Read Mark 3:22 - 35. This book blasphemes the holy spirit by what it says for it degrades the father in heaven to lowering himself to the whims of Satan, which by the way would never happen, NOR would he ever subject one of his children to the devil.............

To prove to the devil that Job wouldn't turn his back on Him. God knew Job's heart and no matter what the devil did to him, he kept his faith and God rewarded him in the end. the devil thought he was such a 'hot shot' that he could cause Job to turn away from God, but it didn't work.

God didn't give permission. It was a test. Satan said that Job would not continue to believe and have faith if he lost everything but he did.

God didnt give permission. God simply told the devil something that he didnt know.. that the protective hedge around Job was already down.
...

Job had knocked the hedge down by continually making sacrifices in fear concerning his children's behavior.

he said, "what i greatly feared has come upon me"

if he'd made the one sacrifice in faith and let it stand... no matter what his children did... then none of that whole thing would have happened.
...

but... when Job forgave those "friends" that condemned him... the hedge went back up and God blessed him twice over.

regarding parental-child concerns, see in contrast the story of the prodigal son and the father who watched daily in faith and hopeful expectation for his son to return.
...

To help Job grow and perhaps so Job could be a good example to his so-called friends.

Everything our Heavenly Father does is designed for our welfare. This may not be clear at the time.
