by overall weight (fat) loss
the only way to lose fat is cardio 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then start burning fat) combined with light weight training
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You must diet to get so skinny that your abs show.
You must exercise your abs so that htey bulge rather than sit flat.
You must keep doing your cardio to reduce and maintain minimal body fat.

Dude it is truly hard work to get them and just as hard to keep them once you do.

You have to do abdominal exercises to strenghten your abs and take care of the excess abdominal girth.

you also need to do strength training and do interval cardio...it really trains your heart and doesnt burn your muscles (if you run too much all the time, it burns your muscles)
