I don't think he was. I grew up LDS and once believed it but now that I am older and have the means to seek out my own religion I have come to the conclusion that he was just a guy that wanted something to believe in. And when he couldn't find it he just created his own beliefs and by being confident enough with himself people followed him

joe smith was a guy who figured out a way to write a book, and used prophecy as a tool to change it at will to get things the way he wanted them. If there was something he wanted done differently, well he just happened to all the sudden have a prophecy about it. Which is kind of funny when you look at it as most of them never came true. He may have in general been a nice guy, maybe not. Last of all, a true prophet does not change the Word of God to suit his own pleasures at the time. God Bless......In addition, I have done my research, according to joe smith every leader of the mormon church is a revelator, a seer, a prophet and a translator....so, if he translated the bom from egyptian, why is it that when he translated the papyrus into the book of abraham it was found only to be an egyptian book of the dead? Plus if they all are prophets, seers, translators, and revelators, why was it that the other presidents also failed at translating it correctly? why is it when the church was presented with the salamander letter the president of the church did not know it was a fake? And why did they hide this?

No. Reason #7 is very prevalent in his teachings. The Mormons say they use the KJV Bible, but that it has to be interpreted through their books. The rest of the Bible tests don't match up either.
Biblical ways to test if a person is a true prophet:
1. Deuteronomy 18:21-22, "...How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him."
2. Numbers 12:6, "...if there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream."
3. Numbers 24:4 & 16, "... falling into a trance, but having his eyes open..."
4. Daniel 10:17, "For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me."
5. Daniel 10:18, "Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me."
6. Jeremiah 28:9, "...when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord hath truly sent him."
7. 2 Peter 1:20, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation."
8. 2 Peter 1:21, "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."
9. 1 Corinthians 14:3, "But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort."
10. Isaiah 8:19-20, "...To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."
God says, "To the law," what's the law? It is the 10 commandment law of God, " . . . and to the testimony . . ." What's the testimony? The "testimony" is the rest of scripture. " . . . If they speak not according to this word [the 10 commandments and the Bible], it is because they have no light in them." That means a true messenger of God will keep all of God's ten commandments.
11. 1 John 4:1-3, "... try the spirits whether they, are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God...."
12. Matthew 7:15-16, "Beware of false prophets...Ye shall know them by their fruits. . ."

He was a sex addict.
He craved sex so much he invented a religion which convinced gullible young women that it was ok for 25 wives all to share one husband. Him.
He also hated blacks, so he was also a bigot.
He fulfilled one prophesy in the Bible. Found in Galatians 1:6-10 which proves he's a false prophet.
The new religion he founded, so he claimed was told to him by an Angel. The name of the angel is Moroni. ( That is "moron" followed by the letter "I". )

The answer is an emphatic yes! Joseph Smith was called of God as a true prophet in this, the last dispensation of the fulness of times. Regardless his human frailties and errors, he had the stature of a Moses and an Abraham. Through inspiration of God, Joseph was able to translate a collection of ancient records written in Reformed Egyptian into English, and except for minor grammatical changes and phrases, only one translation was made.
Through Joseph Smith many revelations came in which some are found in the Doctrine and Covenants. You may read his abbreviated history that is located in every Book of Mormon; particularly of his first vision when he saw God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.
Disregarding the many foul attempts on this forum to discredit him, it is up to you to investigate for yourself.

Joseph Smith was an alcoholic who stole his friends idea for a science fiction story and turned it into a religion.

Don't know, there have been many prophets since Jesus' death and before his walk on the earth, but there have also been false prophets. Basically , if every statement made by Him is in line with scripture, maybe he was, as long as they can be confirmed in the Bible.
Socrates was a prophet too.

No, I do not think he was a true prophet. Just a man wanting to start his own church.
His name isn't even in the Bible.
