Because the bible is a fairy tale. People live longer now than ever before and no one has lived to be 150.

Some scholars speculate that it was because there was a vapor canopy over the whole planet before the days of Noah. The Bible seems to indicate that it didn't rain until the flood and that the air pressure was also greater. So the blocking of harmful sun rays and the greater amount of oxygen in the air is thought to have prolonged the life of people back then. Another reason given is that after the fall of mankind the original perfect genetic material in Adam and Eve slowly started to deteriorate. That's why people could initially marry close relatives and have healthy children while now inbreeding can lead to genetically defective babies.

Martin S gave you the answer that the Bible indicates. It never rained before the flood, which is another reason the people thought Noah was crazy to build a boat. This just proves that things aren't always what they seem to our human limited mind. In Noah's day who'd thought that there would be a flood, let alone rain? So, just because we cannot comprehend the ways and thoughts of God, doesn't mean that His entire Word is not true. It is. Don't be caught in the judgments of the tribulation because you were too stubborn in your prideful thoughts not to believe and trust in your Maker. God bless

People early in history probably lived long because of a pure gene pool created with Adam and Eve that was not damaged by past generations of disease, radiation, drugs, etc. This would have eliminated all of the inherited desieses that people now suffer from. (Have you ever filled out an insurance form or had a doctor ask about your family history of cancer, heart desiese, etc,?)
They also had a pure environment without polution and pure, natural food. (No pesticides, no processed food, no preservatives, etc.)
Possibly because of God's help, letting people live longer to populate the Earth.

nobody knows why they are portrayed as so old, but it was probably because in those days, in that culture rather than our own cosmetic-surgery one, age was very respected. by saying that somebody lived to be 900 hundred years old, it was a statement that the person was very wise and good.

They had something to look forward to? If I read it right they waited 200 or 300 years to consumate their marriages. No la petite mort perhaps; along with better soil conditions for crops.

Before the great flood, there was an atmosphere or "mist" that covered the earth. Up to that point it had never rained. This "mist" held out impurities and UV rays. The body aged less rapidly.

You could use the common answer, "Because the bible said so," but such circular reasoning hardly constitutes as an acceptable answer.
