Gee, We're surely lookin' forward to *that*! ... Woo, woo!
(Well, not necessarily so "well intentioned." ... Look at some Xian R&S posts - then reevaluate.)

nominal piety or genuine love...
Those are the choices, you say?
Well, I say door number 2.
You really have named a conflict that I never could reconcile myself with when I was a Christian. How can it make sense to damn people who are affective in such positive ways on this planet simply because they don't comply to religious order?
To me, genuine love matters.
Although, saying the damning words seems to go with very little thought. Even not saying them, but hoping and praying that someone finds their way into the fold, does not contribute to humanity.
As far as I'm concerned. Being damned, should be abolished from the Christian religion. That alone would be enough.
Then your just celebrating genuine love due to choice and not being forced to nominal piety.

Im an Orthodox Christian.
No not EVERY atheist just those who knew better but did evil anyway. Hell includes alot of fake christians too.
Judas believed but then went and betrayed Christ. He will be condemened for rejecting a truth he knew rather than for not accepting a truth he did not know. So it is with everyone.

I believe that the only people who will be cast out of Heaven for eternity are those who KNOW Jesus is our Savior and yet they still reject His offer of Atonement...
I believe that some will spend time in Hell but will then be released and brought into a "lower level" of Heaven...
I also believe that Jesus' Atonement is Infinite and that we only have a very tiny understanding of its power.. and I believe that EVERYONE on this earth accepted Jesus as their Savior prior to their birth.

I once heard a chaplain faced with faced with a very similar question say that real faith is a reaction to the divine. It doesn't have to do with professing yourself to be part of a particular religion, but with behaving in a manner that shows compassion for other people.
If God is real, I think he's smart enough to know that talk is cheap.

I understand your conflict with this. Many Christians who come from extremely threat unfastened backgrounds contemplate this Biblical paradox. yet, nevertheless, thousands and thousands of doubtless ethical human beings admit that their existence earlier to repentance and attractiveness of Christ became a egocentric and prideful attempt to stay existence aside from God. Christianity annoying situations the middle question of who you're. in case you think of you could stay a good existence aside from God and don't opt to nicely known God on your existence, it is basically installation which you get what you elect, an afterlife without Him.(which isn't a good place, in view that God is sweet, actually) yet differently of finding at it is which you settle for all of God's presents to you i.e. the mild each and every morning, the air to breath, the outstanding thing approximately introduction, significant relationships, etc, etc i could desire to circulate on continually, and yet won't compliment Him one bit for those products. Atheism is an exceedingly ambitious assertion which you do no longer you like God.

Anyone who rejects Christ as their personal Saviour and dies in their sins will go to hell.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

There are those that unwittingly serve a higher power, yet can't believe in heaven or hell any more than the self promoting subjects of a religion who will condemn him.

God is supposed to love us ever so much more than our parents do. My parents would never put me in an oven or some other fiery pit not matter what I did. Therefor I do not believe in the concept of hell. We make our own hell on earth. The atheists will make peace with God once they see their thinking was wrong. Until then, they are God's children and we should love them in spite of their beliefs.

If they hear the Word of God and believe in Him and accept Him as their personal Savior, they will not be included in burning hell. The Bible says that God has also sheep from other flocks. This means that there will come a time (in due time) when they are going to hear the voice of the Shepherd (Christ) and they are going to follow Him. He said,"My sheep hear my voice, and they know Me, and they follow Me."

I think and know that atheist won't go to heaven! The bible says there is only ONE way and that is through accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior! Read these scriptures for starters -- John 3:16 and Romans 3:23)
You can love people all you want if you do not know Jesus as your Lord and Savior it is all done in vain! Jesus is the true source of Love!
