Six hours isn't really that much. Some people need as much as 8 or 9 hours to feel healthy. Maybe you need to get to bed a little earlier? If that's not it, maybe you need more exercise. A sedentary lifestyle can really make you feel exhausted.

It may just be that you're not getting enough sleep! Even though 7-8 hours is the recommended sleep amount, everyone is different. Some people need 6 - any more and they get groggy. Some people need 9, any less and they can't function.

I read that a good way to find out what your natural sleep amount should be is to take a weekend off by yourself, go to a hotel or a cabin somewhere where you can relax. The first night doesn't count 'cause you'll still be letting go of the stresses/buzzing in your brain about the week. But on the second night, when you get sleepy, turn out all the lights and get into your most comfy pajamas and go to sleep (the idea being that you don't force yourself to stay awake for that one last chapeter or that last 15 minutes of the show!). Don't set an alarm. When you first wake up (and before you tell yourself to doze off again) note the time. If you didn't wake up due to some outside stimulant (noise or etc.) then that's your natural recommended sleep amount. That's what your body needs to function at it's best.

It could be due to many reasons. Perhaps your six hours of sleep is not good quality sleep. Do you have a lot of dreams? When you wake up,do you feel very tired in the morning? If so, then you will need to find out how to improve your sleeping environment. Can you sleep in a quite and warm room, where you feel safe and warm? You have to relax before you go to bed. Try reading a book or listening to music that relax you.

Another suggestion is to work out and do some physical exercise. Exercise creates chemicals in your body, and will help you feel more energized throughout the day. The best time to exercise is during the morning. Try to get up 15 minutes earlier, and just do some stretching, and a short walk and see how you feels.

Good luck!

I agree, with both who answered that 6 hours is not enough. If you work hard and lead a very energetic lifestyle - you should definitely devote more time for rest and proper healthy sleep.

Healthy sleep - means sleep without disturbance. Take a walk before sleeping time, breath fresh air, take bath and sleep.

Also if you have a feeling of 'constant tiredness' you should spend your weekend somewhere more closer to the nature, like forest or lake.
Pay attention to your diet, don't eat oily food and fast food. Eat more vegetables and fruits, drink warm milk every day before sleeping time.

Best of luck to you!

Well, 6 hours is a small amount of time to sleep, make sure to eat properly. Your breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Try to get excersize, if your sad or bored you'll probably get sleepy. So try to keep your self occupied.

The suggestion about exercise is OK just you might not want to exercise within the 3-4 hours before you are planning to sleep as this could contribute to insomnoia.

Possibilities -

Depression--You would know if this was it, and could seek treatmant.

It could be hypothyroidism--go to your doctor and ask them to do a TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) test, if this hormone is high it actually means that your thyroid levels are low, your body just keeps calling for more and more thyroid hormone cause you are not producing enough.

Sleep Apnea-- if you are overweight and or a heavy snorer this is a possibility, talk to your doctor about the problem.

It could be a number of things.

You should have a full set of blood tests, and make sure your doctor includes a thyroid test; he should also check for iron levels, because if you're a bit anaemic, that can cause fatigue.

You might also be lacking in a vitamin or mineral; take a combined multi vitamin and mineral tablet and see if that makes any difference; you might need to take it for several weeks or more before you see any difference.

Six hours sleep is not that much - it wouldn't be enough for me, I need more like ten!

Perhaps you need to eat a healthier diet; eat plenty of organic fruit and veg, oily fish.

Try cutting out bread - that can help.

It could be lots of reasons. You could suffer from sleep apnea which means you stop breathing in your sleep for a few seconds and then your brain kicks in and starts you breathing again, you don't always wake up during an episode of this if you start breathing again quick enough or not have any memory of it. It could be that your not getting enough sleep or restful sleep. Is it interrupted? You can wake up several times and not be aware of it. Get with your doctor and see if he/she wants to order a sleep study for you to find out whats going on .

You're bored. Do something with your time that you're awake. Sitting in front of a computer doesn't do it, reading is not the answer, television is not the way to go either. Movement. Get around, get away, get active so that when you sleep you'll be well rested and ready to begin the next day with vigor.
