Just about anything my Mother in law cooks! No small wonder my husband calls me the kitchen goddess.
The absolute worst meal from her was:
1)burnt ham steaks
2)mashed potatoes that were undercooked with hard lumps in them.
3)green salad -- that was old and she actually told me just pull out the bad leaves and put more dressing on it -- as if!
4)blackened brown and serve rolls -- I bake and well and had offered to bring the bread -- but no she wanted to fix it all -- her treat!!!
5)frozen broccoli that had been in the microwave, but was still frozen solid in the middle.
and
for dessert she fixed lemon bar cookies! Apparently these were wonderful, but I hate and I stress I hate, lemon bar cookies!!!
Now I know some will think I made this up because it sounds so awful, but trust me when I say at holidays I only allow her to bring napkins. paper plates or drinks. Her children are so grateful because I can do this and they can't. She really believes she is a good cook!
I get such a nasty feeling inside just thinking about her meals. Childhood must have been awful for my husband!
Peace.

The packaged meals they made us eat in the Army (MREs) were the worst. It was all in brown plastic and had a six year shelf life. Imagine eating food that was fresh out of the factory five years ago!!

My husband's boss took us out for a meal and I didn't fancy much that was on the menu but it did have calamari in a cream and white wine sauce with rice and salad which sounded OK as I knew I liked calamari. Unfortunatey I was expecting calamari rings which look like onion rings but I got a pile of squids legs (complete with suckers) dumped on top of the rice a plate. They looked like small snakes and even though I kept telling myself that I knew I liked the taste of them I just couldn't bring myself to eat them. I couldn't even eat the rice as it was trapped under the calamari! I felt awful because my husband's boss was paying for the meal but... I'm shuddering just thinking about it and this was nearly 20 years ago!

pigeon - at a business lunch about 15 years ago - the clients were French and chose the food - a pigeon covered in dark brown gray stuff was served and that was all - it looked so much like a pigeon (whole like a frozen chicken) that i couldn't touch it - i said i had suddenly started to feel unwell; my colleague was furious. Also i was starving but i couldn't have eaten that for £1,000,000. I would always ask people if they disliked anything before ordering for them - very patronising and mysogonistic of those arrogant clients!

I was given a dish containing stir friedtofu, veg, garlic and a thinly sliced meat I presumed was beef.

I was wrong!

It was LUNG! From what animal I don't know, but it was absolutely disgusting!

Salted apple is quite horrendous too. I've heard of Arabian Goats milk 'patties' that are cooked in the sun that are foul...you take your life into your own hands sometimes in the name of adventure!

There were 2.

Meatloaf with brown sugar broiled into the top. Awful! And, a turkey dinner, with cinnamon and sugar dressing.

Both of these were dinners my kids & I were invited to. And both time, my kids, bless them, ate the portion that was put on their plates. They politely turned down seconds, and thanked our hostesses for the food. I was sooo proud of them! Great manners.
After we got home, they let me know their private feelings about the food, and I had to agree.

My mums liver and bacon eewwwww! or her attempt at veggie lasagne she use to make for my sister, consisted of broccoli, carrots, courgette, cauliflower and swede, all cooked until mushy (and I mean mushy!) and then put between layers of hard crispy lasagne with a thin layer of a very floury cheese sauce that was lumpy! My poor sister ate it for years, no wonder she moved out!!!
