I am putting together snacks for my sons soccer team, and have of course included things such as 100% juice, milk, fruits, veggies, granola, peanut butter and yogurt - however, some of the kids want their "favorites" which include things like cheetos and oreos. Does anyone know of some happy medium between the two? (No, I am not serving ANY oreos!) Thanks!

*sugar-free pudding or jello cups (this way their getting the "chocolate" and stuff and they don't know its not that bad for them!)
*fruit cups
*baked chips (these cut a lot of the transfats and aren'ts as bad for you)
*crackers and cheese
*yogurt with granola they can sprinkle on themselves (kind of like sprinkles on icecream or something)
*string cheese
*granola bars (quaker has some that are 25% less sugar and only 90 calories, they are delicious)
*trail mix (you can add some chocolate chips or something like that in it)
hmm... well there's some ideas, I hope something from this will help you!!!
Good luck!

Now a lot of snacks are comming in small, low calorie snack packs marked "100 calorie" or something, which is a good way for kids to enjoy their unhealthy treats without overeating or spoiling their appetities. Try baking cookies yourself that are low calorie, and see if the kids will try trail mix (nuts may have salt but are also very healthy), dried fruit also is a plus. On that not, fruit is usually a crowd pleaser and has natural sugars. Match fruit, veggies or crackers with dips, caramel, yogurt, peanut butter, etc. Cheese snacks like cheese cubes and string cheese are good sources of protein and often are low fat. You seem to know what's healthy too, so its just a matter of getting snacks that they'll favor over other less healthy snacks, and that might be more trial and error.

If the kids really want to have their favorites, but you feel that it's not a suitable snack, look into serving their favorites in the Nabisco 100 Calorie packs.
Visit the website and you can browse through the cookies (including Oreo varieties), crackers, and puddings they offer.

Why not have low fat microwave popcorn? It's yummy and healthy, and it feels like they are eating something like chips. You can season it with seasoning salts too to create a variety (sour cream and onion, ketchup etc).
Rice cakes are another healthy choice; they have these rice cakes now (by Quaker) that look and taste like dorritos, but are very healthy. They are easy to find in any grocery store.
Cheese and crackers perhaps. Also, why not bake some low fat muffins or things like that to bring along. If they like oreos, you can make a modified recipie with cocoa so that it's like chocoalte but tastes healthy.
Oh and if you have a freezer on you, there are these very low fat but very tasty skinny cow ice creams (120 cal each or so). They ahve ice cream sandwiches, fudsicles etc. with low sugar.

I make popcorn, but not microwave stuff. I buy a package of yellow and a package of white popcorn. its usually in a 1 or 2 lb. bag. Put a handful or two in a brown paper sack. Cook for about 2 to 3 minutes in the microwave. It has no salt and no unhealthly oils.
