Do you believe in Zeus and Odin and Ra? Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy, and Peter Pan, and The Wicked Witch of the West?
You are confusing the symbol for the thing, the concept for the reality. The symbol God exists. The concept God exists. But I believe that the concept of God is all there is -- there is no 'real' God in existence. I believe the Bible is myth, i.e. a the legends of the ancient Hebrews, and should have been classified as classic fiction long ago like we have done for other myths.

Originally, my own conclusion was: I am agnostic because I think that it is not possible to know with certainty whether or not god exists, and to consider myself an atheist would require me to BELIEVE that god does not exist; belief and faith are beyond my abilities. However, since frequenting Qs & As, I have come to understand that real atheists do not doubt that there is no god; they cite scientific proof of their nontheism; thus faith is not requisite to an atheist. I remain agnostic simply because I seem unable to abandon the concept of a deity altogether though I tend to support nontheistic political causes and accept the scientific theories of evolution and the origin of the universe, nor do I embrace any formal religion or religious organization.

I am not an atheist but I can see that you are confused. You have to recognise that someone else believes in something and then you choose to not accept their belief. You cannot believe and not believe at the same time, that does not make sense.

I might be mistaken to say Atheists seem to trust the devil more than any good 'left in this world'.
I get this idea because of certain answers I read from certain people. The Devil won't get you any where but feeling like crap. He will put you through 'living hell'. Been there done that and it ain't a cool place to be!

Not an atheist but I belive you can find the answer to this question at Romans 10:13-14
Although the vast majority of atheists have "heard" they have chosen not to put faith in or believe the evidence presented.

Hi Glenda - you are confused - I dont believe in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy either as I am sure they dont exist. Same as the bearded bloke in white robes who lives in the clouds - I dont believe because I am sure he doesnt exist - you logic seems more than a little twisted.

You just have to believe in the truth, and not allow any faiths or superstitions to get in the way of the truth. Once you do, you will see the problems with these blind faiths and false superstitions, and you will learn the dangers in believing in stuff you have no idea is true. You will see that most of the wars on the planet are religious in nature, as well as most of the hate.

You are wrong, sorry.
I assume that you don't believe that leprechauns are real, that they objectively exist. Does your statement "leprechauns aren't real" mean that you actually DO believe in them? No.
The only reason any atheist is required to identify him- or herself as such is because OTHER people are theists.
