I think they're wrong. Just like they think I'm wrong.
Do I like them? How do you think someone could say if they like THEM? I'm sure there's no one who knows all of the atheists. So we couldn't possibly know if we like THEM. Someone could tell you if they like a particular atheist or not. I can't tell you if I like any of them or not, because I've never met one. I never knew there really were any atheists before I started reading the questions and answers on this site. I had heard the word and knew what it meant. I just did know there were any. Kind of like their knowledge of God.
I'm sure some of them are good people and some of them are bad people. Just like there are good and bad people in every other group of people you can think of.

In the east, Atheist is hardly heard of coz' most of the population of the east belongs to one religion or another. From the answer and the bashing these Atheist gave and reply, I guess that they are not very nice bunch of people. Therefore I believe that is why they remained Atheist!!!

My therapist is an Atheist and she is one of the kindest most loving people I know. She started as my son's after-school counselor, when she moved I started seeing her. I only found out recently she was an Atheist. I consider her to be a very good person.

The ones I've known have almost all been cool. I'll admit that people who identify as "atheist" tend to share a lot of other views that I find congenial. They're open-minded, thoughtful, educated, and they know how to have fun. Did I mention I'm an atheist?
In practice, though, if not in theory, atheism is all but universal. Most people say they believe in God, but hardcore religious nutjobs are still a minority (thank God); and most of the others go on with their daily lives rarely considering the question at all - certainly don't live in daily dread lest they think of their genitals and upset God. It's just the term "atheist" that's prejudged in our society; it bears the same sort of stigma as the word "cultist," even though the latter broadly applies to all members of an organized religion.
Plus, people think that if you don't believe in God, you don't believe in anything. I'm amazed at how often that comes out. And what can you say to change their minds? It's the connotation of the word. In point of fact, it takes balls to "come out" as an atheist in a society as hypocritically religious as ours - real moral courage of your convictions. Being a "Christian," meanwhile, is as easy as falling off a log. It's expected, encouraged, accepted, rewarded. All it needs is a desire to go with the Herd. Not even that - it's the default position.

I think most Atheists are philosophical Fundamentalists who want to change things because they don't get to join in with the others who are religious because they are not and that's silly.
That's like saying EVERYONE SHOULD GO TO THE SAME RESTROOM NO MATTER WHAT THEIR BODY PARTS ARE BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE BEING EXCLUDED.
They have an unrealistic view of DESEGRAGATION
They can't join the Boy Scouts but they don't have enough resources or moxy to MAKE their OWN organization that EXCLUDES ANYONE WHO BELEIVES IN A GOD
They can do it and it can be BETTER than the BOY SCOUTS
BUT NO
They want to CHANGE THINGS
People will SEE them for what they are if they EVER take on something like the MASONS
If they start SUING the MASONS, people will realize what KILL JOYS they are

We have been friends with an atheist couple for quite a number of years. They're just people, and yes, they're good.

They are great people. Very smart with open minds. Who love science and real answers for everything. Atheists are very misunderstood and automatically labeled as "devil worshipers" even though there is no devil haha! It's kind of like if you are against the war in Iraq, you are automatically a "terrorist" or "unpatriotic"

An Atheist may be 'good people.' I like Atheists that do not spend a lot of time talking about God. The one's that keep trying to shove their religion at me piss me off. ( Sound familliar?)

The big puzzle to me is why people who write about atheists cannot seem to use the plural form of the noun.
