Science is no religion, and one does not 'believe' in it. One can trust the scientific process, and accept the results it provides.

Even though, Theists know that science comes from God, it is not treated as part of religion. Theists as well as atheists can work within the scientific fields. devout atheists will state that all Theists are ignorant, but that would contradict the theists that work in the science community, wouldn't it?
The term comes from the greek, and has nothing to do with religious people "naming" atheists.

The fruitcake element in christianity falsely claim atheism is a religion, or that science is a religion, and others are "dirt worshipers"..
This sort of illogical premise labels every person on Earth religious whether they like it or not.
Like all christian arguments against atheism or followers of scientific principles, it is full of holes and easily countered, but they will simply refuse to see/hear/touch/understand this..
The term atheism is used mainly by christians as an attempted derogatory handle for those who are more enlightened that they are, but because most atheists ARE more enlightened, they do not take umbrage at the term.
The christian argument is always childlike and infirm, and so is the term "atheist"..!!
"Guppy 137", I agree with your specific reply to me, however it changes nothing about what I said above..

No offense, but believing in science does not eliminate one from also believing in God...and believing in God does not exclude a person from believing in science. What really makes me wonder, is how science has somehow been turned into a belief system. Science is just the study of things...anything...knowledge is obtained from studying. Even the study of religion is a science.
Just because people study topics that call into account a theist belief doesn't mean the actual study is in itself a system of belief.

Theist = A person who believe in god
A-Theist = A person who believe in god not.
Who said a person cannot call himself an atheist? I had once heard from a Christian friend of mine saying that. This is what he said "No one is an atheist, because deep down inside he believes in god" But I told him he is wrong, basically deep down inside everyone disbelieve in the existence of god, therefore religion was formed to create security blankets, just like the Hans Christian Anderson Story.

Think of the term asexual...okay, now this is the opposite of sexual, right? atheist is the opposite of theist...it is all just a matter of word play and depends wholly on what the action word is. If theist was pringle, the opposite would still have an a on it and be apringle?
LoL...Just a thought..I know I said it poorly...can't think tonight.

Science does not belong to any religious or non religious group and has no opinion either way. You can be a great scientist and be theist or atheist without any bias one way or the other.

Well in essence your correct. However everything has some Grey to it. Define god. A pantheist says god is not a being. I believe physics is more of a god even though we don't have all the answers.

Ridiculous.
People can lack belief in any gods; then they're atheists. They may refer to themselves as such, and so can others.
Science has nothing to do with religion or beliefs. Even christians are allowed to understand and accept it.

The particle "a" in Greek, means "without." The stem "theos," means "god," or in some cases, "gods." The combination of the particle and the stem result in a word which means "without god or gods."
No secret committee met to decide upon this word, it came about by the normal process of language formation.
The person with whom you spoke is misinformed.

the term is a-theist, or without-theism meaning no belief in any god or gods as opposed to theist or theism, the belief in a god or gods. that's it, that's all there is to it. it is exactly the same as saying something is a-typical to mean not typical...get it now?
