"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was having us all believe that he never existed." That is a great saying by Mr. Kevin Spacey. Anyway, I am not a person who buys this: "The Devil made me do it." hog wash. I believe that as humans, God gave us our own free will and when we do stupid things, then it is our fault, not the Devil. I believe that my God knows better than that and does not buy the, Devil made me do it, garbage one bit.
To answer your question I think the evil one is very sneaky and hides in places we would never expect right down to religious organizations and governments. For example; Jim Jones and the people he fooled into killing themselves. The Evil one was so clever in that part of history the Name of God was even used by those in that cult. What about the Nazis? Do not tell me that the Evil one was not a part of that organization. Evil is very clever and will hide in places you would never image and most people never see it, till its to late. Think about it.

Let's get real, here.
Most people wouldn't recognize evil till it bites them in the butt...and many still don't recognize it even then. That is a fact of life.
As for why so many Christians get lured in by a charismatic figure, I would suggest to you that, perhaps, that has already happened and they just don't realize it yet.
Maybe it's not a person we are looking for at all....

One man's evil is another man's good and vice versa. A better question would be how can a Christian (or any other adherent) be sure his organization has not become the evil he is counseled to avoid. Hypocrisy is rampant in so many religions.

Yeah, actually, I know a person who is extremely evil. He beats up on his poor sick sister, and elderly parents. He steals from his family, and I don't think he would think twice about killing someone. He claims he's Christian, but no Christian would do this. So, yeah, I encounter evil almost on a weekly basis.

Surely to know evil you have to experience it, and just by seeing something... I don't think it is possible to fully evaluate and make a proper judgement...
Just thinking out loud there... but I definately find that evil has to be experienced to be appreciated, or proven through an action or evidence to be recognised and avoided (or embraced, I guess).

Not so much the Christians, as the rest of the world, will be attracted to the "anti-Christ." Remember the Bible says that satan's messengers are able to transform their appearance to even look like messengers of light.

The only 'evil' I've ever seen is in my own self. Fear in its thousand forms, is the only evil on this planet, not that which people fear because of their own uncertainties and apprehensions.

Because they will be the Christians who professed by mouth but not with their heart.

You can not see the evil spirit but you can feel it in your heart if he is tempting you to do bad things.
