There are a few reasons. Mainly, he is disliked by the #3 fans because he ended the #3 era. The fact that he is the best driver infuriates the Larry the cable guy clones. They are only slightly less upset that he is a California boy who has dominated a redneck sport. To paraphrase Darrell Waltrip: " It takes a team effort to win in NASCAR. If it was just up to the best driver, Jeff Gordon would win every week". If he was a middle of the pack driver, he would still be disliked for his previous success.
P.S. Harvick and Gilliland are from California, also, so it's not as rare as it once was.

It's just the nature of sports any sport to hate the winners, unless the winners are your favorite.Right now I hate the Colts.Gordon wins and that means your driver didn't.Nothing more scientific about it.Remember SR. was booed as hard as Jeff has ever been.By the way I've heard every and I mean EVERY driver whine at one time or another. That includes JR. Stick a microphone in my face after being dumped at 190mph and I might not say the right thing either.

Rain dog hit it right on the head. It's because Gordon came in and blew the competition away, including Sr. Sr. fans weren't, and still aren't, ready to accept the fact that the Earnhardt domination and era was over. Someday Gordon's era will end and someone else will take his place. As for the fans that think Gordon is a whiner....come on people...they ALL whine! Take Denny Hamlin this past weekend. Jr. too! They ALL do it!! ALL OF THEM!! Not just Gordon. And the whole crybaby thing started when he won his 1st or 2nd Cup and got a little emotional at the ceremony. JESUS!! Give me ~$7 million and I'll cry! But I've come to see that people are going to hate him. But he loves it. As for all the gay remarks, well, you just can't fix stupid.

I only know one person that is a fan of Gordon's, my brother, and when I ask why, he says because everyone else hates him. Jr. has one tons of races, though no championship (yet) and has a fan base in his own right, not off of the coat tails of his father. So, now he's a middle of the pack driver and still loved. Why? No whining, no excuses, he gets angry, says his piece. Gordon doesn't just let it out, he actually whines. The sun's to bright, it's too dark. Sorry the good Lord couldn't make the perfect race day for him.

The haters are just jealous that Jeff is a betterdriver than theirs. Some say he whines if he loses, well what does Tony Stewart & Harvick do if they lose. The fact is Jeff is better than Sr & Jr. Look at the stats. It took Jeff a lot less race to reach 77 than Sr did it and Jr will be lucky if he reaches 25.

Jeffy whines way too much for my taste. He's also a dirty driver and an @sshole to fans! Oh and he claims he's from Indiana, but was born in Cali. We, Hoosiers may have to claim trash like Michael Jackson, Ryan Newman, and Tony George, but we don't have to claim Gordon!

Honestly, yes. I only got into the sport a year ago, and I didn't like Jeff Gordon before I knew about his success. I just don't like him because of his attitude. In my opinion he's one of the biggest whiners in the sport, and he acts like he should be the only one on the track. When someone blocks him or tries to pass him not neccessarily completley cleanly, he makes a huge fuss about it. He kind of has the, "I'm the best and I know it," attitude, and I don't like that.
Maybe if he was a middle-of-the-pack driver with no championships he wouldn't have the same kind of attitude, in which case I wouldn't dislike him. But if he had the same kind of personality, then I still wouldn't like him.

Buba:
Look, it is nothing to do with all the above. Your trying ur best to prove a point and it is not working.
I wouldn't like little Jeffy if he had only ran one race. I don't like how he looks, acts, whines, drives, etc. etc. There is nothing that I like about him. It doesn't matter to me if he wins/looses, I just don't like him.
Haven't you had like say maybe a classmate that you just could not stand, nothing in particular that he did, he just sorta rubbed u the wrong way? Well that's the way it is. What u need to do is ask ur self why it bothers u so much that a large majority doesn't like Jeffy. Ease up relax
It doesn't bother me, or any other race fan one iota if u don't like my favorite driver.
