It is not illegal to download the files provided they either are not copyrighted or you already own the original (ie. a backup). So for example if you just bought the latest greatest CD & you want a back up it is legal to download & have in your possesion the downloaded copy because buying the cd in the first place you also bought the rights to the music. Now if you then share that same file with the public that is illegal.

Depends on the song, Ususally if the song still has liscensing, it is llegal to copy it. Your odds of getting caught are small but they choose you, you will PAY. A girl wsa caught just last week and her parents had to pa 3,000 fine, not to mention having to pay their lawyer. FREE MUSIC IS NOT FREE. Additionally, Limewire and it's brethern are more virus sharing sites than they are music and movie sharing sites.

yeah, it's illegal most of the time. it shows you what files you can download with a legit license, and when you go to aquire those licenses, ya either have to pay or download a crapload of spyware on your pc from a company that'll give you the file for doing it

it is probably legal if your using the files downloaded for personal use, but if you plan to use it for business purposes like selling compiled mp3 or something, therefore it is illegal...
