My dog, a terrier/pomerian mix, happens to REALLY like whipped cream. [( I just fed her the TINIEST little bit off of my little finger a moment ago )]

I was just wondering if a lot would do a lot of damage?

I was asking because I was thinking I could give her a little bit every once in a while as a treat, since she seems to like it so much. We do feed her pieces of bacon, hamburger, sausage, and chicken as well, but since meat and whipped cream are totally different, I wasn't sure if feeding her more than a small smidgen of whipped cream would do much harm or not.

"I know a girl who gives her dog, Darko, a doggie biscuit covered in whipped cream as a daily treat. "

I read that on a website, but since I don't know what type of dog it is, it may affect her's differently- it could be big, and the food would affect a small dog more so than a big one, I would think.

This is a very good question! Few dog owners know that most dogs tend to be lactose intolerant. This means that they lack the enzyme beta lactamase, which allows the digestive system to break down the kind of sugar contained in milk.

Dogs that lack this enzyme end up with a lot of undigested sugar in their intestinal tract, which creates a wonderful breeding environment for bacteria. When a lot of bacteria grows in the intestinal tract it can irritate the stomach and intestine and cause vomiting and diarrhea. These are the same problems that occur in lactose-intolerant people.

That being said, while many dogs are lactose intolerant, some are not. Some dogs love the taste of milk and other dairy products and won't have any stomach or intestinal problems when they get some as a treat.

The bottom line is, it may be okay to give your dog a small amount of milk if it doesn't cause her any vomiting, diarrhea, or other discomfort. Check with your veterinarian first to be sure it won't cause your pooch any health problems or interfere with his diet.

***I would recomend you buy actual treats from the pet isle at the grocery store for your lil guy. Some chocolate/candy stores carry little treats that are safe for dogs to eat.

Tiny smidgeions of treats won't hurt her, the tiny bit of whipped cream won't hurt her.
Don't let the tiny bits of treats turn into more than that. Too many treats of human foods will upset her tummy and give her the runs.
Be careful about how and when you treat so you don't create begging and behavior problems.
I always save one or two small bites of my dinner for each of my dogs. They know they're going to get some, so they wait quietly til I'm done and don't expect anything til I get up from the table and go to clear my plate. They only get the treats when I'm standing at the sink, so begging at the table has never been an issue.

I don't know about whipped cream, But I remember giving our small dog ice cream many years ago, and he got very sick. I heard that dog food is much better than human food because our food is not digested as well, and certain vitamins they need are added to canned dog food. Best thing to do is google it or ask your vet.

Well, you shouldnt really feed your dog all kinds of people food because its not healthy for them, but since it is your dog...go for it. My sister has a maltese mix with some Pomeranian as well. Shes pretty fun to feed, so I know why you do it. That dog has and WILL eat anything she can, and shes still tickin. Even jalapenos! I think your dog would be fine if you fed her whatever as long as its in small amounts.

A little bit once in awhile as a treat only. That's safe. Maybe as much as a TBSP at a time. Much more than that and you could be cleaning up some pretty nasty messes. It has a high fat content so you have to take that into consideration as well.

well too much wipped cream could probably hurt your dog but if it's every now and then it will probably be fine. you could probably ask your vet about how much would be too much. or even try searching google.com for more information about wipped cream. i would say that giving your dog some wipped cream on ocation as a treat would most likely be ok. you should try to find out more about how it really can affect your dog. :)

Sorry, milk products and dogs don't mix, usually lactose intolerant. no chocolate either, but dogs do usually love carrots, melon, blueberries and blackberries - small amounts- and they're all good for the dog. Dogs do love cream, ice cream and milk, sorry.

It can be very harmful. The sugar and lactose are both bad. She will end up with an elevated heart rate from the sugar and diarreah because she can't digest the lactose. Never give her meat that has any seasoning or sauses on it either. Best to stick 100% to dog food.
