I'm running the school mile tomorrow morning at around 8:15 and I was wondering how I can improve my time of 7 minutes and 55 seconds. I know that's not very good but I've been running a mile every night for about a month and I've improved my time from 8 20 to 7 55. I wanna get around 7 30 but I don't have anymore time to practice. Any tips on how to get a better time??

Drink lots of water before this mile run. Start right NOW! Do not, however, drink like a gallon in one sitting. Just sip periodically. You should be getting 8 cups of water atleast a day. On the day of the run, do NOT drink a lot of water within an hour before running. Just a little bit is fine. Good luck!

Don't let the other runners suck you in to their style of running. Know exactly what splits you need to run to achieve your goal, and it may not even involve winning the race. Good luck

Do something called ladders. 200-400-800-mile-800-400-200....it's a good endurance builder and great for short distances.

get a good night's sleep, and warm up a little before the race with stretching and a minute or two of jogging.
