Ok, before you go and get sue happy, just listen to me for just a second. I own 2 rottweilers, and they are the sweetest dogs you could ever ask for. Im not here to lay any blame on on you or your son. Where were you at, for your child to get bitten by a dog, was your child pervoking hte dog in any way? What kind of dog was it? How much did your stiches cost? Are the legal fees going to be more than the cost of stiches? Have you thought bout making the owner pay for your childs medical bills? There are other ways to get what you want other than becoming sue happy. If you sue this person, they could lose everything, And im sure you are not that kind of person who would want another person to lose everything that they have worked so hard for!
so please before you go and sue this person, please try to work things out with the owner, and do your research!

Do you have no insuranc, or does the owner of the dog? Your question is very difficult to read. Their property insurance should cover this if it was on his property. If on yours, your homeowners insurance may cover it. Check the yellow pages for a lawyer. It may also matter on where it was...like at the dog park I go to you must be 9 to come in. If a 4 year old were to be bit the parents would be in trouble for child endangerment, not the dog onwers. Please give more information.

It really depends on the situation. You should give the whole story because no one can really tell you yes or no if you don't explain the issue entirely.
My dog bit a little girl on her butt, well she nipped her, but this was of course after the 20th time she asked to pet my dog and I told her no. And she ran up behind my dog on my property and my dog bit her in defense.
I was not going to offer any money or anything. Some people should teach their kids about strange animals.
There is so much legal mumbo jumbo that most people don't know about. Check with your laws in your state and maybe contact a lawyer.

Instead of tying up the justice system with this issue, why not just ask them to pay the medical bills? Take a copy of the bill with you and say, "I think, since it was your dog that injured my baby, that it is only fair that you pay these expenses. It's due in 30 days, please pay it by that time." Leave them a copy of the bill and give them the 30 days to pay it. If it's not paid by then, approach the topic again and let them know that if they don't pay in the next 15 days, you will pursue remedies under the law. Give them a chance first...Meantime, if it gets close to the 90 days when it would be sent to collections by the hospital, go ahead and pay it, keeping your receipt so that you can pursue legal action and regain your money.
They may not have homeowner's insurance, but they DO have an income. You can put a lien on their vehicles and/or on their home, if you win and they don't pay within the prescribed amount of time.

You have the right to sue anyone. You are more responsible for your dog then you are your children. But offer the owner of the dog the responsibility to pay the bills first. If they don't cough up the dough, then sue them.
Pain and suffering is also an option too. Depending on your state, there is a cap of what you can sue for.
Good Luck!

Actually it would depend on where your child and the dog were when your child was bit. Circumstances leading up to the bite also would be considered by the judge. Ie. was your child in the dog's yard? Was the dog properly restrained? Had the dog been provoked in any way? Was the dog not on a leash? Etc. etc.
Sure you can sue, but you may not have a case.

poor kid I am so sorry to hear that . You bet you can sue. Here is my cousins story my cousin was 3 years old when she got bit in the face by a dog and had to be taken to the hospital to get stitches. my aunt and Uncle sued the owners of the dogs. they put the money in a fund for her as part of the settlement. Now she is 22 she recieved a portion
when she turned 18, 21 and she gets the rest when she turns 25. I wish you luck in finding a good lawyer.

The dog owner is responsible for the behavior of the animal and any damage the animal incurs. Yes, you can and should sue for the cost of medical treatment, and also for a court order to have the dog restrained. If there are any mitigating factors such as 'Was your son trespassing?', let the courts decide degree of fault. Every municipality has some type of ordinance regarding vicious animals.

Of course.
That is a fairly serioud dog bite. Many attorney will take such cases on contingency basis. (which he takes his pay from percentage of the judgment)
There are some circumstances where your position may be weaker, but you should definately talk to an attorney, if the owner is not acting cooperatively.
Keep in mind, 4 year old is know to not know any better. Even the child provoked the dog, the owner usually cannot escape all the liability.
