My little girl uses the room that I also want to set up as a room for guests (then she can bunk in with her teen sister if we have guests over). I was planning to buy a nice sofa bed for her room to have in there which could be opened up for guests. Then the sofa could be incorporated as part of her room (you know - a comfy place to sit and read stories). What color sofa bed should I buy? How can I decorate her room? The carpet is pale caramel and the walls cream. It is a blank canvas. She is only 1 year old but I want it to be girly/pretty - but also suitable for guests to stay in (you know - not completely covered in Disney Princesses or anything)

I saw that done once in a magazine. They accomplished it by using a fabric covered screen. One side would have the girly, princessy, fabulous style that she would love, and the other side would be classical, and reserved. I even saw a hand-made screen/separator on wheels once, that featured a mural on one side, and was a chalkboard/art area on the other side. Perfect for this kind of situation!
The bedding would be the same idea. One set that reflects your daughter's style, and another set to reflect the guest suite. Same thing with the curtains. Two sets, different styles.
You let the walls be a blank, neutral slate, and you fill in the style or them with accessories. Have shelves behind the screen, and a neutral trunk to hold toys, or store toys in the closet. Switch her big stuff out of the room, and replace it with your accessories that match the guest suite.
You will only be confined by your imagination and your pocket book.
I once saw one room done like a jungle. The border was made of silk palms that were attached at ceiling height by Velcro, and could be removed in five minutes! The decorations were palm trees with stuffed animals, and the palms were in planters on wheels (wheel out of sight into the closet). All the rest was taken care of by switching out curtains and bedding!
Another room was a camp site, complete with pup tent, pine tree clothes tree with bear, and lantern with lightening bugs in it (Christmas lights).
I can go on forever, but you get the idea. Good luck, and HAVE FUN!!

Sofa beds are really uncomfortable to sleep on and very expensive. I would suggest a trundle bed that will make a full size bed for guests and a small bed for her. Buy her some bed accessories she will like and keep a guest set in the closet so you can change them for guests and that way she has her "own" room but gets to bunk with sister when guests arrive. Purchase some neutral curtains and neutral child pictures like 'Stuart LIttle ' that everyone will like including her. Make sure she has her own stuff to keep in a bin or toy box when guests come so she feels the room is still hers.

Having a toddler's room be a guest room for adults is a lot of pressure for a toddler. Toddlers don't know a lot about not putting crayons on sofas or turning sipping cups upside down inbetween the cushions... Is it possible to transform the adult bedroom into the guest bedroom. You'd get to update it and enjoy it the vast majority of the time. When you do have guests you could stay with your one year old. You and your toddler wouldn't be set up for potential guest problems in her room and your teenager would be happy she didn't have a toddler in her room. Worth a try? And you get a more luxurious bedroom!

Decorate it with things that would be perfect for a little princess and the HECK with guests.... they are only going to temporarily be in that room and your little girl will be in there 99% of the time.... Don't think more of accommodating your guests then you do your little GIRL!!!!! Make it look like a little GIRLS ROOM...she is only going to be little for just so long....it doesn't have to be absolutely babylike, but you could make it say something a 4 year old might like and then keep it that way for the next 4 - 6 years.. All kids like POOH, do a POOH room...But remember, it's your LITTLE GIRLS' ROOM FIRST and a "Guest room" second... NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

Why not just buy a double size bed? It will probably be a lot more comfortable.
I would suggest some green colors with a small print [ flowers maybe? avoid pink if you get male guests ] for bedding and drapes. Add another color from the print for lamps, picture frames, ornaments, etc.
Make sure she has adequate storage for clothes, books, and toys [ maybe storage bins in closet, or under the bed - you could color code them so she learns where things go.]

use like a turquoise/teal color and paint white flowers over it, not like girly flowers, use the more modern type... I would reccomend like a futon or one of those sofas that fold out into a bed, buy a teal shag rug, and right now target has teal sheets and quilts in those colors, its feminine for your girls but would work as a serene room for guests
(i attached a link of some more modern-looking flowers, its actually a sheet set but its more of a grey than teal)

You could buy a solid color couch and enhance it with pillows that have different designs...butterflies or whatever.
You could also change the pillows out when you have guests to something a little less juvenile.

what you need is some colorful & girly portable decoritive items, such as bean bags, chair cushions and throws for your seating area. you could even hang up a reversable painting. this would allow you to quickly be able to just put those items away whenever you need to, without too much fuss, whilst pleasing your daughter. hope this helps!

I would go for brown/tan and pink. Nothing too crazy and no kind of theme, just pink, brown and cozy. Maybe a couple butterflies for the walls. I love the combo pink and brown
