im trying to loose some about 5-10 lbs so i started cutting back my calories. on average i eat about 1000 calories a day with a few cheat days every now and then, and i was wondering is this ok? im not starving, im eating things like non fat yogurt, apples, good cereal (special k, smart start, kashi), fish, and veggie wraps from sub way (delicious!!). i also exercise about 30 minutes a day. ive heard never to eat less than 1500 calories a day, but at 1000 or a little over 1000 i am satisfied not at all starving. im only 5'0. so....is this healthy?
thanks!!

It look like you are doing all the right things. If you don't feel hungry with 1000 kcal. then you are ok for the short term. Typically depending what sources you look at it can range from 1200-1400 kcal per day is recommended. You need to determine what your BMR (Basal metabolic rate) 1st. Then determine your RMR (resting metabolic rate) what your body burns at rest. If you look these terms in wikipedia you can get this info and calculate you approx needed caloric consumption number.

Calories is a measurement of Energy and not weight. That is what the recommended intake per day is for 2000 for women I believe. This amount is recommended because your body will need most of that to get you through the day. If you take about 1500 a day you will notice a great difference in both how you feel and also your general health/fitness will improve. Don't fall into the trap "reduce everything to be healthy" this is wrong you should follow the "consume what your body needs in the healthiest way possible". Also if your family say you could be anorexic it is highly likely there is an ounce of truth in it. Have yourself checked out and put your mind at ease. We can't really help you here.

well no. A lot pf people do it but it isn't healthy no matter what height u r. U r probably not starving because you are use to eating that much. The right amount of the lowest amount a diet should have is 1200 calories not that much more to add but it makes they difference between starving you metabolism and not. All you have to do is add a banana to your diet or anything consisting of 200 calories its not hard!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

1000 is damn near starvation. You might think that's smart to lose weight, except you risk your health, and if your body decides it's starving, your metabolism will slow down to next to nothing and you still won't lose weight...well, not until you start getting sick from everything. Then you'll lose lots of weight.
Bump up the calories. 1500 and excercise is ideal.

i think you are okay as long as you eat the right foods. you sound like you on the right track but do not go under 1000 cal. its more important to eat the right foods. yes, i love subway wraps. i eat very healthy also and we would get along just fine. last year i lost 50 pounds eating right and walking 5 days a week. dont go under 1000 and dont forget to eat good.

You may not feel like you're starving, but you are. What you're doing is very unhealthy. How old are you? Please speak to your doctor immediately, and add 1000 more calories to your diet. If all you want to lose is five pounds, you can do that by going to the gym and working out.

up it to about 1200 calories a day with the extra activity you are doing. If not, you will cause your body to go into fat storage mode from using too many excess calories.

it depends on how old you are, if you are an adult 1000 should suffice, but if you are still a teenager you should be eating closer to 1200.
