People are obligated by God to follow His (or Her) eternal moral law.

One of the Catholic Church's roles is to teach people about God's moral law.

The Catholic Church proposes and does not impose.

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control is against the will of God.

Natural family planning is safe, effective, and insures the human dignity of all concerned. Here is some more information on Natural Family Planning: http://www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/nfp/index.shtml

With love in Christ.

To the above poster who states "The Catholic church proposes not imposes" ---is WRONG!!

Now to your question; the Catholic church indeed IMPOSES this because it is a Law from God. What Law? Natural Law. To go against it is to go against God, pure and simple.

You as a wife are indeed obligated to follow through with no artificial birth control. Natural Family Planning is an option as long as you are open to conception of children and at no time hinder conception.

You love your husband, no doubt. He's a Catholic. To go against Natural Law is harming not just honey buns, you, but also God.

By the way, the Catholic church recognizes your marriage. It however does not have the supernatural grace bestowed on it due to lack of the Marriage sacrament.

I wish you many happy, blessed years together!

The Catholic is obligated to encourage ( but NOT nag) the non Catholic to avoid artificial contraception.

Take an NFP class together. It is much healthier- not only for your marriage, but for your wife. Think about it- NO GOOD can come from chemically preventing a body from doing what it is designed to do.

All chemical birth control affects a woman's health AND can actually abourt a child.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by using NFP.

Yes, the wife is obligated not to use birth control.

We're all God's children so we're all bound by His Way. Some of us don't want to think that way but that's why we're all our brother's keeper.

It would be wrong for the Catholic man to allow his agnostic girfriend to use birthcontrol, regardless of their differences of opinion in belief systems. Sex is about two people becoming "one flesh".

While it takes two to tango, it only takes the illicit acts of one to cause both to sin. The only way the man cannot be held responsible is if he is totally unaware that his agnostic girlfriend is using birth control without him knowing about it.

Let's face it: such a thing would be foolish. It's just a matter of time before he finds out about her use of birth control.

It is not a custom, it is not a canon law; it is God's law, according to the Catholic Church. No married couple can morally contracept, regardless of their religion.

The Church does not recognize half-Catholic mixed marriages. Canon law does not apply.

Please listen; I am an alter server and an usher, I want to be a priest. Diregard the first post. The Catholic Church accepts all marriages but one of the spouses must be Catholic, whether the wife is Muslim and the husband is Catholic, they'll accept it.
"We aid others in sin when we:
1. participate directly and voluntarily in another's sin;
2. order another to sin;
3. advise another to sin;
4. praise another's sin
5. approve another's sin;
6. hide another's sin;
7. do not prevent another's sin
8. and when we protect sinners and evil-doers"

I would assume that in your case, the husband is going against numbers: 5 and 6 possibly. He is for sure going against number 7.

God bless you.

I would say to just use NFP. Natural Family Planning. They can have sex when the woman isn't fertile, because, in my belief, the usage of birth control is selfish and is only for your own pleasure instead of receiving the gift of a child.
