I have heard that only real pilots fly jets. Is this why helicopter pilots don't get ejection seats?

Helos dont have ejection seats because where would the eject too? Straight into the rotors moron. Also they are usually flying so low that a parachute wouldnt work for them.

Tell that to every combat helicopter pilot that there ever was and you would be sure to get an ear full. Because jets are the present and the future, pilots are usually trained on jets. Thirty years ago it was a different story. A helicopter is not built to accommodate an ejection seat.

An aircraft in good trimmed condition WANTS to fly. you have to make it do something else.

A Helicopter does NOT want to fly. you constantly have to make it do so.

Fixed wing and Rotary wing aircraft takes two different kinds of skills when it comes to keeping their birds in the air.


So far as Ejection seats are concerned. yes, most Helos do NOT have them because of the Main rotors overhead would chop anyone who tries it into little bits. However there is a new ejection seat the Russians have come up with for their Helos. Explosive bolts separate the rotor blades from the hub seconds before the seat fires up. Centrifugal force will throw the blades clear before the seat reaches them.

So far as they fly too low to eject, thats bull in todays tech. I guess he never heard of the Aces II Seat that has what is called 0/0 capability
0/0 capability is that you can safely eject with 0 altitude and 0 airspeed. (AKA Parked on the ground)
The seats rocket motor has more than enough boost to get you to a safe altitude for the chute to open.

Another russian inovation in Ejection seat tech is the Gyro stabilized seat. If you happen to eject while pointing right at the ground or even upside down. once clear of the craft a gyro will spin you about and a second charge fires to boost you UP and clear of the ground for the chute to open.

They don't get ejection seats because of the huge spinning blades they would be fired right into. Chopper pilots are the absolute best pilots in the world. Think about driving. Going forward is easy, right? That's what planes do. Even when they go up or down, they point themselves in that direction. A helicopter goes up, down, sideways, and in reverse, and can hover and pivot.

Are you serious? Helicopters are exceedingly difficult machines to fly. Their pilots are every bit as skilled as any fixed-wing pilots, usually more so.

Chopper pilots & crews saved my butt more than once in Vietnam, something a zoomy boy never did. I'll bet those "real" pilots were real happy to see those second class pilots show up in a Jolly Green to pull their first class a*s*s out of the bush!

definitely not, helicopters are an essential part of our military, you can't drop off troops in a jet, or you can't provide close and constant air support as well in a jet either. Remember, to each his own.

choppers are very difficult to fly. as for the ejection seat do you want to go through the rotors?
