It seems to me that any eternal afterlife would be utter torture. You could do everything there is to do, learn everything there is to learn, meet every other soul that ever existed, in fact do every possible thing an infinite number of times and still have an infinity of time left to fill. The boredom would be infinite and never-ending.
The only tolerable way to spend eternity is complete oblivion (which happily is what will happen to us anyway).
Agreed?

hoff: Sure, more time would be nice, but if you had a billion years and still had infinitely more billions of years left after that, wouldn't it begin to pall?

If you have not come into a knowledge of the true God through faith in Jesus Christ, you have not yet found Life, but you have only existence. That is why it seems that way to you.

That's funny. A lot of people view hell as an unending orgy, and as such, think it would be heavenly.
Personally, I have a little imagination and can fathom that there might be something better than an eternal orgy (which isn't gonna happen in any case). But I think boredom is a product of a finite mind and finite resources. An infinite perspective, and infinite resources, would mean infinite possibilities. Besides, there are lots of things I wish I was going to live to do again. I think the idea of actually having the time to relive every wonderful experience would be... wonderful.

That kind of bugs me too about any kind of afterlife belief. I used to find the idea tempting that we can always evolve spiritially be born in other worlds (reincarnate). Eventually become gods ourselves. Create our own worlds, care for the souls thereon. Suppose even that gets boring after a while. Oblivian sounds very scary and very sad. And shocking that we are all such selfish people not working on making this world the greatest place for everyone if this may be all we have.

i do not settle for the romantic view that lfe is what you're making it and all that's needed is a stunning frame of mind. destiny and condition matters too a lot of human beings to the most undesirable actual and psychological reports. Genocide, conflict, famine, psychological ailment, ailment, abuse, rape, homicide to call yet some. Our identities are shaped by technique of adventure and for most existence can purely be an endless warfare to live to inform the tale with integrity.

The way it's sold to us is as an unending - UNENDING - church service.
Exactly why would anyone want that?
In any case it makes no sense and has no evidential support. Oblivion will be fine provided I make the most of this life. So far so good.

Would people still have to go to church in heaven? The brain can only hold so much information, after a while things just disappear, so you could effectivley learn it all over again, and again, and again...

Maybe, but wouldn't new knowledge to acquire, new souls to meet, new things to do be continuous as well?

In my view, we keep trying until we get it right. Getting it right consists of becoming one with the Clear Light.

Yes.
Eternal life of any kind is the worst punishment that you can have. Good question.
