It is pretty much a general consensus that no one thinks immigrants should be permitted to reside in the US without authorization. Yet, everyone is freaking out about the possibility that the proposed legislation that would provide something very similar to amnesty will become law. The reason I hear repeated so much is -- no one should be allowed to be rewarded for coming to the US illegally.
Since everyone seems to have strong opinions about immigration law, but almost none are actually informed about immigration law, I will let you all in on a little "secret." There are in fact several ways currently in existence that certain immigrants who entered the US without permission can become legal.
Isn't the point is to have less illegals?

People clearly did not get the point of the question. I want to know why you people are ranting about illegals being here, but then you complain when some of them could be legalized. I don't want illegals because they can't get driver's licenses, hence insurance. They live under the radar. They are a liability. It's better for everyone if less people are illegal. It is IMPOSSIBLE to deport the millions of people who are here illegally. And it would be disastrous for our economy. Let's strengthen our borders and enforcement (the government has already put a lot more resources into this), deport the criminals and legalize the hard-working, responsible ones.

In case you forgot, this opens the way for ALL races to infiltrate our country now. Iran, Iraq, China, Russia, anyone who wants to cough up five grand can NOW come into this country...and listen to me, it is hard not to resent illegal aliens that come here and commit crimes, do NOT want to be Americans, but want all the benifits, and send the money out of the country....the point is, they are being pandered too, and shown prefferential treatment, and they do NOT DESERVE IT

In many people's eyes the point is following the law. If we citizens must follow the law, why should we reward illegals for breaking the law? Bottom line, if we were not concerned with the law, then nobody would care about the illegals.
Suppose I came to your house uninvited and set up my living quarters in your extra bedroom. BUT, I'm helpful. I help with lawn work, I do your laundry and I cook your meals. You like what I do for you and you're comfortable. If you take advantage of my hard work, do you have the right to ask me to leave your house?
This question or should we follow the law are the main questions about illegals. No body has come up with an answer yet to satisfy everybody.

The point is to keep illegals out period. there should not be any way for illegal immigrants to gain amnesty... the law should be "come here legally or don't come here at all"... the current system has failed and the new proposal will do no better...

No the point is the immigrants are not paying taxes but reaping the benefits. It is like taking a penny out of one of those dishes at gas stations, if every body takes a penny but only half of them put one back. You wont have any after a while. That's why people have problems with illegal immigrants.

With that logic, we could just eliminate the laws related to immigration and just open up the doors and then nobody would be illegal.
So, no, simply converting everyone that has been here from illegal to legal is not the answer.

Yes, the point is to have LESS illegals....by deportation, securing the borders, prosecuting employers hiring illegals, not granting housing or healthcare to illegals, not necessarily in that order .
Amnesty was granted before, and solved NOTHING!!!
We now have 10 times more illegal aliens than the last time it was granted.

You are rewarding people for breaking the law and ignoring the people who try to do it legally. It still sounds better than the current system of complete negligence about enforcing the law. The government gives me no reason to be confident that any provisions of this will be enforced.

Simply because we cannot afford that large of an instant demand on our resources.
Read your immigration laws again my friend because if its that easy they would be citizens, obviously they are intent on breaking the law, where does that stop.
Just as I hate paying my taxes , I do, why ,I don`t know as I am not getting squat for them. Therefore I huess I won`t pay,I bet I will get arrested for that.
