Being kept alive, for many years, while in a persistant vegative state. When the desire to 'protect life' means that the quality of that life is very low, it is a life without dignity or meaning. Death does have a dignity in some situations.

There is no dignity in death, it's rude and offensive and death can make you sick to your stomach at the stench of it.
It's the person's dignity in life that matters.
