I am a graduate of Arabic Language and Literature. My father is Palestinian in origin hence he knows arabic as his mother tongue. Quran is often read in my fathers house but my mother and I have never seen any force from my father on how to dress up .
It was said in the quran for the women to cover theirselves and take of their jewelry and bangles but at the time when that message came to our profit by Gabriel , the non belivers were torturing the belivers. So inorder to be unknown the message came likewise.
But it is soo easy to manupilate people by using religion.

Are you Turkish? You're not I suppose, because majority of the Turkish women-like me- do not cover up their heads. I absolutely hate it. It makes women submissive and turns them into dummies. I am glad that these people are not allowed in public places in Turkey. I am Muslim and I am religious but there is nothing wrong with wearing a bikini in the beach and also reading the Quran. Every Muslim should be like that. It doesn't even make sense, why would you cover up your head? Is there a man who would be tempted because he saw your hair? Lol no. Why cover it? Why?
For those who claim that Quran says you should cover it, verses are debatable. There are professors in Turkey who interpret it as "Cover your breasts". Quran says "Cover yourselves" not "Cover your head". Open your eyes, give women rights to live or you Arab countries will always stay as Third World countries. Follow the path of Turkey.
Another thing, if you are Turkish and covering your head or wearing a 'hijab' you no longer ARE a Turk. This means that you embrace Arabic culture, I mean pre-Islam Turkish women were even ruling the country when the king was gone. Wake up, embrace your own identity. It is NOT a sin to show your hair for God sake! Life is short, don't punish yourselves for nothing.
All in all, live TRUE Islam. Work, take pleasure, educate yourselves, be a good citizen for your country, be independent, show that you too have a brain as Muhammet wanted. You people are traitors to Islam if you do not treat women equally. Who knows, maybe you'll burn in hell for that:)

I don't understand why you can't stand looking at women wearing hijabs. You could possibly stand looking at women walking around in bikinis, so why bother about the other way? i think people are independent to do whatever they want. i am a muslim as well but never considered wearing hijab. but i have friends who do so, and don't care about how they practice their religion. about what is written in the Quran is something controversial. i think the best way to think is "what if it is true?". that's why i started praying five times a day actually, there's absolutely nothing i lose when i pray... i can imagine that you'll think i also have a political purpose by praying... now that's nonsense.. :))

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally a reasonable Turkish Muslim (no offense, but you don't seem to find many of them in Turkey itself). The hijab has become nothing more than a political statement and the Quran does NOT in any way require a woman to wear it. This is what happens when you allow patriarchal readings of sacred texts to dominate. DISGUSTING. Should a woman have the right to wear hijab? OF COURSE. But is it required by God? NO. WAY.

It must be hard for a man to judge what´s right for women or wrong! Is true Islam a sub-function of hijab? Or is it the other way around? Do you practise Islam? Do you believe that every religion more or less require practising something other than just general moral rules? Maybe some women out there feel better or more confident in practising Islam. Let them do what they feel is right. Don´t you think you insult Hindus when you eat roast-beef. But hey, they don´t know that right? So just turn a blind eye to women with hijab and they won´t bug you as much anymore. Have you really read Quran to be able to claim, that it doesn´t contain anything about hijab?
Prejudices won´t bring you too far. Try to give a qualified thought to this issue. You will find that most of your arguments stem from a young person in his early twenties.

You should not feel this way but I understand your view. And Ali
what is your true Islam,is it killing people with terrorist attacks thinking women're your properties or as mentioned before raping little girls. That's make me sick.Because of people like you,we're all stereotyped as terrorists or barbarians.I do know Islam, don't act as if your interpretation were the best.

Why do say its not true islam? You doubt Muhammad? You doubt the Quran? I guess what you mean is that for you, that is not your version of islam, so that means your version of islam is not real islam, its a fake version of islam created by you. No doubt, there may be many people like you who practise the fake islam and not wear hijab, but know that fake islam is not islam.
I leave you with a Quran verse,
33:59
O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e.screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allâh is Ever OftForgiving, Most Merciful

Dear Fatih el Turco... ( I DO like the name :-) !),
Thanks for "connecting" to me at the same time as writing this question. Yes, your trick worked, and it caught my attention. You must have written this question in the middle of the night. And it´s timing (as to my other answer referring to "hijab in Turkey") hasn´t gone unnoticed either. So, ok, ok, I´ll answer this too. I apologise for its length, but to be honest, your question is rather provocative, so I´ll answer it fully.
Also, I´ll note that this question actually belongs in the Religion Category. Those users who were quick to point this out a week ago (to a "pro-hijab" guy asking questions) have conveniently forgotten to mention it this time.
First I´ll respond to the theme: Why I wear Hijab, and my opinion.
I am a convert to Islam, I became a Muslim 12 years ago and haven´t looked back since. I started wearing hijab about 5 months after accepting Islam, on my own accord, and as a complete surprise to those around me (my husband, a practicing Muslim, most of all). No-one has ever forced me to do so, nor do I regret it.
During my studies at university (Classical Music) I was appalled how one´s marks and progress were influenced by one´s looks. The profs didn´t just listen to you play, they also watched what you wore (as a female) and marked accordingly. Of course this wasn´t the only time I´ve been aware of being seen as an "attractive female" instead of being judged as to character or skills, it is just a concrete example, and is everywhere in the music industry.
I wear hijab because it is the right thing for ME to do. I do it as a part of covering my body, to take away the "sexiness" associated with women. I still look attractive, but this way people can concentrate on my character, and not my body. That´s all there is to it. Forget "politics" - when people say that hijab is only a political statement and not a part of religion, they are just using it as an excuse to avoid allowing women (wearing hijabs) to express themselves the way they choose to. I don´t go around preaching, and would never consider telling other people that they shouldn´t wear this or that. I wonder why people think they have the right to do this to me?
You don´t have to agree with me (that hijab is good), you don´t even have to like it. But where is this respect and tolerance you are referring to? If France, Europe, Turkey etc. are all really "democratic countries", then give me this freedom too. Otherwise, stop calling it democracy, call it something else, (communism, dictatorship, whatever) and just be honest.
I´m sorry that you feel threatened by women like me. I didn´t realise that I was so frightening. I don´t mind if other users in this category have a different opinion. So what? What concerns me more are the hateful feelings that get spewed out on this topic. I almost have the feeling that some would spit at me on the street, the way they talk. Well, yes, it´s easy to let everything out when it´s all anonymous, isn´t it?
To round things up, please check out the Sura 24:31 - It clearly states, "And say to the believeing women...... that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty...... ". This is because the women of the time already wore scarves over their hair, but left the chest area open. It is suggested to cover this part as well, using the scarf that they already have. There is also enough authentic hadith to back this up. Being a Muslim means accepting what is in the Koran and believeing it is true. Some parts may be difficult to understand, or you may not be able to follow it personally. But to deny what is there is not correct.
I wish you peace.

as a Christian,I ask you why you should feel sick.
Christian women always had to cover their hair while
attending Mass, though it's not well respected by the younger
generations.
