Take it from a tech, Vista is a much better operating system then XP. I have it on two machines, neither of which has given me any problems at all. I did have one instance of program incomparability, but that was some very old software. I see allot of folks saying that they don't like Vista, well folks, all I can say is learn to setup and run your operating systems.

I installed Vista about a week after it was available and have not had one problem since. No blue screens, no freezes, nothing. It's a great OS, and we might as well get used to it because it won't be all that long until there will be no support for XP. And while I'm on the subject of XP, I guess that all of these folks don't remember that it took about a year you get XP fixed and running right.

I feel sorry for those people who actually ditched XP in favor of Vista. I run both and Vista is getting better in compatibility terms. The only thing that irritates me about Vista is supposedly a security feature - whenever you try do something routine like uninstalling a program or going into computer management, the screen goes dark (not black) and a window pops up asking if you really want to continue. I don't see the point of that because you're already halfway to doing the thing. Anybody thinking of going for Vista should avoid Home Basic because it lacks some of the heavily promoted Vista features. Vista Premium should be okay but you need to run a compatibility check first to make sure your existing hardware (printer) can operate fully with Vista. About your last point; I've been on Y/A for some time now but I still have no idea what sims 2 is

I am answering you from a laptop that is using Windows Vista Home Basic, and I can tell you that I really wish it had XP instead.

Vista has a lot of features that I'm sure others enjoy, such as extra security precautions and a much larger driver database, but it's completely different from XP in so many ways that you should set aside a day or two just to explore and learn the differences before trying to do too many other things.

Is it better than XP? I would have to say "no," but that doesn't mean I'm saying it's worse, either. It seems worse to me, but I'm very familiar and comfortable with XP, and trying to figure out how and what has changed can sometimes be very annoying, especially when you're trying to do something else.

The Sims 2 is not recommended for use on a laptop computer, which is, in part, why EA Games started the Sims Life Stories series (which will soon have Sims Pet Stories added to it).

Windows Vista definitely seems to have its problems. I beta tested it and prompty went back to Ubuntu Linux. But most people don't have that choice. It's unfortunate, really, because I had hoped that Mac OS X would prompt Microsoft to ditch the old, unstable, insecure Windows platform and just move the PC world upwards with a new system that would really be on par with the Mac. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. To me, it's a lot slower and the snazzy graphics don't make up for the terrible changes in the user interface that make it almost unusable to me. That being said, Vista renders fonts on my LCD to perfection. I've never seen better-looking text from a computer before.

As a beta tester they sent me a final version of Ultimate for free, but I can't really say I use it much. Ubuntu has much better eye candy and I run my old XP desktop in virtualization with VMWare for the applications that I just can't replace with Linux yet.

As for the version, the Home Premium as all that most people will need. If you need to connect to a domain, you'll need the business version as always. Since you don't have any choice between Windows XP or Vista unless you custom-order your system, you'll be using Vista. I'm not sure how The Sims 2 works on Vista, but I found that the games I have for Windows seem to work fine, if a bit slower (probably because of Vista's overhead).

It's just one of those things... Vista really isn't any better, but it's not like you have a choice.

Windows vista could be better than Windows XP. But right now there are many bugs and things wrong with the program. My advice is to get Windows XP and if you feel Vista is better..you could always upgrade up to vista.

I have vista on my laptop...it's a bit harder to work with in the beginning, but I love the sidebar where you can add gadgets like I have my zune with all my music handy, a note pad, calculator. It took me a while to get used to things being different like my computer is now just computer and you have to type in what your looking for, but yea I think it's way cool! The Sims 2 is compatible with vista. this is a great laptop and not expensive: HP Compaq nx7300 Notebook PC
I love mine!

Vista is amazing as far as smoothness and visual appeal. However, it is such a resource hog that a 'big' computer will run as slow with Vista as a smaller computer with XP.

I use Vista with a new pc with 2GB RAM and twin 1.6 processors, and am NOT impressed with how slow the startup and shutdown is. VERY slow, slower than 512 RAM running XP. But, it's sharp and clean and smooth. You decide.

Many people don't like Vista because it disables some of your programs and may disconnect you. My advice is that until this is resolved, you should stick with XP.
