I heard that a military member can only recieve BAH when he/she is at a perment duty station..not while in "A school" or training for things such as BUDS or Boot camp..any truth to this?

I am asking because my boyfriend is going into the navy and after boot camp be going to BUDs. If we were to get married was wondering if we would get BAH while he was at BUDS for me to live by him in San Diego.

Single Servicemembers do NOT get BAH while at Boot camp or in training. Nor do they get it at their duty station unless they are a certain paygrade, typically at least E4 and have permission to live off base.

Married Servicemembers will get BAH based on the zip code of where their spouse is living AT THE TIME OF ENLISTMENT while in Boot/A school.

so if you get married and he enlists out of say, Mississippi, then even if you move (on your own dime, BTW) to San Diego( and why would you, you would not be able to see him much, if at all.. BUD/S isn't like normal A school) he would only get BAH for Mississippi.

To receive BAH you must be attatched to a command; training commands (unless you are staff) are considered Temporary duty under instruction (TEMDUINS). If you were receiving single BAH it goes away when you transfer to another command and are at an "enroute" school or training.

If you are married, you should keep your BAH because the military pay system should not stop your BAH as it it dependents coded; and will update your BAH at your new duty station's locale once you get there. This may result in a 1-3 month imbalance in BAH, which means a big check if you moved to a higher BAH area, or paying back a lot of money if you moved to a lower BAH area.

Very true unless you have family living off base then they will continue your BAH for the state that they are living in but if your single then you sleep in the barracks no BAH and alot of people dont know this but the service will not take someone that already has 2 dependants ex: spouse and a child, best bet is to stay unmarried until you finish boot camp then get married and add both dependants.

It is true, unless you have dependants that live off base in which case you are entitled to get BAH.

I think you can at least at partial BAH but that would only be if you have dependents.
