for screen savers, you can make it log off after. just set the screen saver to the time you want it to come on, then choose "on resume, display the welcome screen"

start up options - hibernate - shut down
go to start at bottom of screen in blue bar (task bar)
go to control panel
choose power options
choose never to all listed there
choose apply then choose ok
then choose hibernate
click advanced choose hibernate
then click hibernate
click enable hibernate
make sure you click apply and ok to everything
then you can push power button
windows will close
push button again and you are where you was again
computer does not have to do all that work again

You should have an sleep timer in your computer files. Go under your start button and go to display. There they give you a list of things on your computer you select time and there should be a timer mode you can choose to shut down your system.

Assuming you're using Windows XP... Right-click on your desktop and select properties. Under the Screensaver tab, check the box that says, "On resume, display Welcome screen."
