INS estimates that roughly 40% of the illegal immigrants living in the U.S., originally entered the country on non-immigrant visas (such as H-1B, L-1, etc.). These non-immigrants have become "illegal" immigrants by overstaying their visas. These people didn't jump a fence or swim across the Rio Grande, they flew in and entered legally. Building a wall won't change this. Tracking these people would require a national identity card that would have to be presented before many transactions could be completed. In much of the world, for example, one has to surrender one's passport when booking a hotel room or register with the police as a foreign visitor.

Building a wall is the stupidest thing we can do so we will probably do it. That won't do anything except make us look like Berlin during the Cold War. It won't do anything to keep illegal immigrants out. The only way we can keep illegal immigrants out of here is to hold companies that hire them more accountable. They just get a slap on the wrist. The reason we have so many illegal immigrants here is because we have plenty of work for them. If no one hired them, why would they come here?........

No matter how high or how long the wall is, they will find a way to get here. Where there is a will there is a way and all the illegal immigrants will find that way. But you are right they did come in legally with Visas and then they just decided they are going to stay here because life is better and they can get away with alot more because all they have to do is change their names from one day to the next. There will never be enough law to protect all the borders.

I am not for it for the reason you mentioned and also for the fact that illegals already get through places that have walls. Currently there are many places that have underground tunnels that go 50 feet or more underground and come up on the US side. A wall is only intended to make people feel secure but really would not do much to curb illegal immigration.

Building walls won't do a single thing other than costing us money. In desperate measures, people are willing to do a lot more than climb a stupid wall. In times like these, we need people to leave. The national identity card would be very nice, actually, and I have that about it before myself. To make any transaction at all it would be necessary to have it with photo identification. That way it makes it really easy to catch and deport anyone. With obvious proof that they are illegal, people won't need a big fuss, just an escort back to their own country.

The wall was already passed by Congress per Duncan Hunter-CA. He asked GW about it, only 2 miles out of hundreds of miles have been built since the bill PASSED last yr. Seems like someone is ignoring the LAW. See, citizens are not following through with PROTESTS on this type of disregard while the illegals are fighting their tails off for presumed rights here(not in their own country though).

The U.S. prostituted it's self out to become the leader of the "New World Order" - by sending jobs overseas and strengthening the countries that always end up turning on us (like the new British government) - So, in order to compete with India, Taiwan, China, and all the others - we have to accept slave wages that only the illegal immigrants are willing to take - in order to compete with this "new world economy" that we manufactured. Remember " When you hold up your middle finger at someone - there are always four fingers pointing back at you!".

So you are suggesting that 40% did not jump a fence or swim across illegally...by the statistics you cited,, 60% did...therefore...Yes I am in favor of building a wall!!
It's already being built by the way...in case ya didn't know!!

One huge wall, plus an electrical fence :)
That should help cut down the number of immigrants
