Are christians just taking the surface of the text and forgetting about what is deeper???
it is like a Shakespeare work, you may follow the story and think it is sad, funny, tragic, but if you read beyond words you may enjoy it much more and come along new meanings.
Is it possible for a christian to read and understand poetry???

Apparently not, I would say it's far from simplistic
many people such as yourself don't understand it so you all make fun or try to trash it.

"Put down" what you don't understand seems to be the motto of many non christians

To read the Bible literally, a person would have to read and translate each word from the original language it was written in.

That is the dictionary definition.

There is a Usage problem that is remarked upon in many dictionaries. I quote:
"USAGE NOTE For more than a hundred years, critics have remarked on the incoherency of using literally in a way that suggests the exact opposite of its primary sense of “in a manner that accords with the literal sense of the words.” In 1926, for example, H.W. Fowler cited the example “The 300,000 Unionists … will be literally thrown to the wolves.” The practice does not stem from a change in the meaning of literally itself—if it did, the word would long since have come to mean “virtually” or “figuratively”—but from a natural tendency to use the word as a general intensive, as in They had literally no help from the government on the project, where no contrast with the figurative sense of the words is intended."

I guess it's another of those Christian things where they think if enough of them use the term incorrectly enough times it becomes their "Gods truth."

Alberto, being a Christian is the most simple thing in the world. God made it so all men could understand and be saved. When you become a Christian and read God's word it has no end to its depth. Each time you read it, it reveals something new to you. Here's how it starts:

I think in today's world we have many Christians who fall into the "Jim Jones" way of religion. It is liken to the plight of the shrew. The Evangelist with the biggest sat. link , has the biggest supporters, $$$$$. This is where politics and religion play a close and dangerous role. If you tell it like they want to believe, they will give you up to half of the kingdom. Now you go by yourself a benz.

From my assertion, it could look that an excellent many so referred to as fundamentalists, even maximum pulpit preachers, merchandise the sheep, flock, congragation. They positioned on a conceal yet no longer of His spirit, that they could upload sin to sin. There are fake instructors in the present day, in basic terms as there have been fake instructors in the time of Christs time. we are to objective the spirits to be sure in the event that they are of God, to no longer be lead off beam, via their crafty craftyness the place they lie in wait to misinform. maximum do no longer even open their Bibles and learn on a normal basis to rightly divide the word of reality. The seperation of church and state, is biblical. In essence what has been completed, is that via receiving a tax exemption prestige, they are worshiping mammon and not God. If the church organisation does no longer take the 501(c)3 mark, they are going to be dissolved. consequently they have grew to become the certainty in fables. now no longer have they have been given rejoice with from the salt, and are sturdy for no longer something execpet to be trampled decrease than via the foot of adult adult males.

what do you think the psalms are and some of the parables? Not like poetry? The problem is people's 'literal' interpretation is generally wrong and misguided....the bible is like an infinite onion...the more you peel you still can't get close to the center!

It is both logically and scientifically impossible for the entire contents of the Bible to be accurate.

not only can we take the bible literally, but we must take the bible literally. this is the only way to determine what God really is trying to communicate to us.

HOWEVER just because you take the bible literally does not mean that there are not figures of speech- there are figures of speech in the bible.
