Usually because it means that they would have to give up some thing that stood in between them and God. Look at it this way...if you valued something higher than God, would not that be an idol? And 1John 5:21 says "Little children, keep yourselves from idols." He also says in 1John 2:15 "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."

From the quotes above, it is obvious that we have to give up those things that would distract the mind, and turn us away from God. And, sadly, most people love their things too much to give them up. Paul says in 2Timothy 4:3,4 "For the time will ocme when they[the world, or the wicked] will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be truned unto fables." This is saying that the day will come when people, instead of wanting to hear the truth, will invent myths and fables to believe in.

What I have said above is why I think that people don't want to listen to the Word of God; because they know that they will have to give up something that they cherish.

Unless u are reffering to the word as what was made flesh- man- as the word then there are a number of reasons for that. If u are reffering to the bible, u do not know that it is indeed the truth. A lot cannot be proven or accounted for in logic or even in history. Too many contradictions to be a divine scripture and i can prove it.

U can believe it but u do not know it.

Who says it is?

Oh yes, now I remember: The BIBLE says it is the Word of God. And because the Bible is the Word of God, it MUST be telling theTruth!

As the BIble itself says, in so many places: once you have accepted that the Bible is True, you will see that it is True. However, the Truth is hidden from the people who do not believe that it is True, because the Truth is only visible to the people who believe that it is True. Once you believe the Truth, you will see that it is True.

Of course, when I take a moment to think about it, the logic is blindingly obvious!

Sweetie, they don't know its the truth!! that's our privilege to show them and to pray that God's truth is revealed to them. I ran from it, for as long as i could. But Love does conquer it, because that love pierced my heart ,then what was being told to me was no longer a mystery, God revealed it. Lets stand in agreement that someone does get that mystery opened up to them , even in such a way that they can no longer see things from the worlds eyes OK .Then they do pick up the word and it see themselves in the history of who we are and who came to destroy the truth.

It should be why people run from God! It is the same in the Garden of Eden when God called out for Adam and Eve, they were hiding from God!!!

What do you care if others run from the word of your god? Why don't you just focus on worshiping God on your own.

First off, they are not convinced because they will not surrender to Christ. Secondly, they think they are in control, not God. God calls His own in His own time. I'd be getting worried if I hadn't received His call yet. It usually comes through a terrible trial for stubborn folks.

I don't know any such thing. The Bible is full of inconsistencies and values that frankly horrify my. The words of your God are as meaningless to me as the worship of my Goddess is to you.

Get real... TRUTH is always supported by facts, evidence, data, tests, observation, justifiable conclusions...

You know... kind'a the *exact opposite* of "the word of God."

That's true. No one should run. It's much better to read and understand it before ripping it to shreds.
