Christians, when you try to shed the light of the Lord unto others...do you quote things or just say things in your own words? Doesn't it mean more when it comes from the heart rather than quoted from a book?

No. Don't laugh; I'm gonna quote scripture: "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked." Jeremiah 17:9.

God sheds His own light; it's not my business to put my own spin on it. That's why there are so many thousands of religions, denominations, sects, etc. Someone trying to put words into God's mouth, or spin His word the way they want it. We'd have a whole lot more unity if we just lived by the guidelines as written and didn't try to season them with our own "wisdom."

i've done the former, the latter, and in tandem...i don't claim to be able to speak for Christ, so quite often i'll simply present what He said on a given topic...such as "am i/some famous person/someone from a particular group going to heaven or hell?" that's they kind of answer that only Christ can give with authority...i doubt anyone explaining nuclear power generation would be faulted for referring to a text on the topic, even quoting liberally from it...but it seems that whenever Christians quote from the Bible, some folks get quite upset...

I very rarely quote scripture to an unbeliever but what I will do is include the context of it in my own words.

When we speak the truth of God it is good to quote his word and show where the person can find the scripture in the true word of God. Those who have accepted the atonement are by faith in agreement with God and his word is from their heart. There is ony one truth it is not mine or yours but the truth. It is not my wisdom nor my words that reveal God's truth but the Holy Spirit makes his word real to you.

It means a lot when it comes from the heart, but with some people you have to show them where it says that in the bible. we are living in a world where people have less trust and with 3,000 different religions can you wonder why with all of them teaching a different thing.

The word of God should come from your heart when your sharing it, yes you should use scriptures and also what the Holy Spirit has a person to share.

I do both. But mostly I answer with scripture. Why? Because the word of God is living and active. It never returns void.

It is always better to quote the Bible and then you aren't adding or taking away from what God says..

I use both. I think it helps to prove that what you're saying is right, but you also don't want it to sound too complicated for those who have never heard the truth.
