Saying guns kill people is like saying a fork made Michael Moore fat, or that beds make you pregnant.
We have plenty of gun control laws on the books, they just need to be enforced.

Gun control is not the answer. Most guns that are used in a criminal matter are not purchased legally anyways. If you think otherwise, look at the amount of military assult weapons recovered every year in major cities. High profile, dramatic crimes will happen no matter what you give someone as a weapon. If we begin controlling guns, then we will need to begin controlling knives, and a steak knife can be just as effective at killing someone as anything else. If we begin to control everything we can own, we will soon be eating with a butterknife and a spoon, and our chefs will be butchering meat with a pair of round nosed scissors. Control is not the issue. Those who think that we can, or should for that matter, control guns are usually people who know very little about them. This country was founded on a principle of freedom. The freedoms gauranteed to us in the constiitution. Our country was formed because our freedoms were violated. now we are calling on our government to take away yet another freedom. The answe to our problems is not more government, it has to be more responsibility on the part of the citizen. No law can replace responsibility. Nor is it the place of our government to meddle in our day to day lives. our government has grown too big and powerful. Why should we hand it yet another aspect of our lives to manage for us? The government should exist merely to manage our country's finances and resources. It should not be concerning itself with what we eat, what we buy, or what we own. They take 20% of our money from every paycheck, then tell us exactly how to use the rest. We inch ever closer to socialism with every election. Why is gun control not the answer? Because it shouldnt be an option in the first place. It is true that there are school shootings, and murders in our country. The fault is not that of the gun, the fault is that of the shooter. Psychopaths will always find a way to achieve their goals, whether it be a bomb or a gun or a knife.

I don't remember where it is, but there is a town in Utah where its against the law NOT to own a gun. The crime rate is zero. I still believe these people who are pushing gun control are forgetting that the right to bear arms is a 2nd Amendment right.
In light of the VA Tech shootings, I understand the desire for some control. When a gun is in the wrong hands, it can become an instrument of death and hatred. Just remember that guns aren't what kills people - PEOPLE kill people. I still agree with a sign I saw in a gun store not too long ago that said "If guns are what kill people, I should be able to blame my misspelled words on my pencil!"

Alot people believe taking guns away would solve these mass shootings but you if take time to consider how bad off it would make things for us trying to protect ourselves. Criminals will get guns no matter if there is gun control or not but if you leave us with our guns and give us the freedom to protect our property and self you are allowing people to make a choice to live legally or die from their illegal actions. There is a town in Utah where it is illegal not own a firearm and they have lowest crime rate in the united states. The county i just moved from had the highest gun per house hold rate in the state and that county had the lowest crime rate in the state, coincidence, I think not.

Your right, gun control is very counterproductive and very unAmerican. Every American should be well armed and well taught the responsibility of it. There are always going to be loose cannons either way, and they never care about laws on books anyway, but at least in an armed society, crazed nuts wouldn't be able to just shoot one after the other cowering socialist, they would be very soon dispatched by well armed, heroic Citizens. Don't buy the lies.

The answer to what, Joe? Nothing in life is easy and no, of course gun control isn't going to eliminate crime (or even just gun crimes) overnight. But because we can't control drugs doesn't mean we give up the fight and let people have whatever drugs they want. Many people in this country (including myself) are of the considered opinion that the easier guns are to get, the higher the gun crime rate is likely to be. Statistics do bear that out. Most of us just want some reasonable controls on the weapons that are used in the most violent of crimes.

I think the main concern with gun control is that right after any gun bans we placed in effect, no criminal would turn in his weapon but the normal do gooder would.
This is true but once you stop selling bullets its pretty damn hard to shoot a gun unless you're scarring away birds. Cops would increasingly have the advantage in any standoff as the guns would slowly (maybe even quickly or moderatly) taken out of cirulation.
I think it would have a few problems at first, but in the end criminals would have much fewer guns and cops (who would obviously be allowed to still work armed) would not get shot and killed as often as they do now.
As far as hunting rifles go, i think hunting areas could just check out a gun owners gun to him or her when they go to hunt. I think i would still be comfortable with changes that left shotguns and hunting rifles legal, because most roberies and violent crimes are commited with hand guns, which arent used for hunting anyways. Revolovers could also remain legal because you cant go shooting of 1 round a second like that guy at Vtech did, you get 6 and then you get beaten to death with a bunch of desks and angry students.

I recently read that if guns caused violence, the police station would be the deadliest place in town. That is the best summary I have heard in a long time.

Gun control is suppose to keep guns in the hands of law bidding citizens.... we do have problems where criminals steal law bidding citizen's guns and we do have a black gun market... but the intent is there to keep the guns away from the criminals.. I absolutely support gun control... I would hate to think that any Tom, Darrell, or Harry could just walk in somewhere and buy a gun... regardless of their criminal or mental history

Never has been. Never will be. The criminal element will always find a way to arm itself. Take a way the citizen's right to defend themselves and we place everyone at their mercy. As many peace officers are fond of saying, "We can't be everywhere, all the time.".
