I would like to quote Walter in the classic, "The Big Lebowski"
"Who's the (expletive deleted) nihilist here? What are you a bunch of (expletive deleted) crybabies?"

Yes, anyone with half a brain, or one that is not completely warped by indoctrination, can realize that religion is almost always based on what the child is brought up in. Studied show that around 75% of people around the world choose their adult religion by which their parents followed.
This coupled with the fact that no religion has any proof over any other, and Abrahamic religions actually have less credibility than some because they share the much scrutinized Old Testament, and I as well find the saying pretty offensive.
Everyone who has faith in any religion will think just as strongly as their ideals and traditions.

Because you are given free will and know right from wrong it's up to us to make the right choices. As in your example: You make wrong choices or do something that's not right then your mom sends you to your room but only because of your actions.

Of course they say it. If god sends people to hell he's not much of a loving god. Therefore you send yourself.

But, from certain theological perspectives (not necessarily mine), it's true. It works this way: your own disobedience sent you to your room. Your mother laid down rules; you willfully disobeyed them, despite knowing the consequences. It was completely your choice and nobody' else's. It's called "free will" and it works the same way in religion. You choose to disobey, despite knowing the consequences. So after you die, off to your room you go...but this time, it's on fire, and you're going to be there for all eternity with nobody to blame but yourself.

Well, I'm a Christian. The only reason that your mom would send you to your room is if you disobeyed her or did something wrong. You do the crime and you pay the time. That's all there is to it.

Well in any case: God has not sent people to hell, they have sent themselves there. That's different, feel happy now.

Yeah, I don't like the options--believe everything I say or go to hell. How about neither? If God creates hell and determines who goes there, then he sends them.
