I think that when you are wearing a dress it is most important to cross your legs, or at the least keep your knees together. Good job teaching your daughter to be a lady. My mother always told us that it is never lady like and looks trashy when you sit with your legs open. *i guess we just followed the example she set.

Mom,
Learn an important lesson now before you get to the pre-teen & teenage years, pick your battles carefully. Really, some parents would pray that the biggest problem they had w/their child was about crossing his/her legs. Try thinking this little phrase to your self before you react to your daughters actions....in ten years will this make any difference?....if the answer is yes then act accordingly , if no you might just want to let it go. My son is now 26 and preparing for his LSAT's but in all the good and not so good times, never did leg crossing become an issue. Hope this helps.

How about crossing her ankles? When she sits, she can put her legs out and cross them at the ankles. The knees automatically go together.

If she puts her legs behind her on the chair and crosses the ankles in the back, the knees go together as well.

It's a bit uncomfortable at first (crossing the legs.)
When I was in grade school, the Sisters told us to imagine that we had an aspirin between our knees and to try to close the knees together.

It really isn't a good idea, it compresses the large vein and can cause circulation problems as well as deadening nerves. If she wears dresses, have her also wear pettipants, or "culotte slip". If she's wearing pants, there isn't a problem. She will cross her legs if and when she's ready to do so, but it's not something that should be encouraged. Keeping her knees together in a dress is another matter, you might consider longer dresses and have her make sure that it comes over her knees when sitting.

Some people find crossing their legs very uncomfortable. I've got a friend who still can't do it and she's 15. I hated it when I was a kid! And now I'm used to it and I love sitting like that because it's relaxing!! Tell your daughter to try it a few times and if she still doesn't like it, maybe you should just leave it. It's up to her.

shes probably just being rebellious. Give her time, if the both of you do it, she will more than likely pick it up. On the other hand, she could be a tomboy and not feel comfortable with crossing her legs. Time will tell children are a product of their environment, they notice things and will eventually go with the flow or if things are bad - some make a pact with themselves to go the opposite way.

She should cross her ankles..it will keep her knees together and she wont have to worry about someone accidently seeing up her skirt or showing too much leg when her legs are crossed. crossing your legs isn't comfy for all. and I think techmically its not ladylike to cross your legs at the knees, but at the ankles instead. it also prevents your legs from falling asleap and is better for circulation.

My goodness, you must have a fetish with legs and crossing them. You have asked some version of this question over 100 times. Get a grip.

It is actually bad to cross your legs because it can cause varicose veins and things later in life, so my mother always taught me to cross my ankles. At ten years old it's just one of those things that you have to keep telling them!!!

Didn't that go out by the 1960's? Crossing her ankles will do just as well when she's in a setting that requires this.
